Morè (clan)

The Morè (Marathi: मोरे) are a Maratha clan found largely in Maharashtra and nearby states of India.

History

The More clan claims descent from from Somavanshi king More of Kashmir Region or some consideration indicates their descendancy from Mauryan Dynasty of Patana (Bihar) which ruled over the Maurya Empire in, India which boasted of the rulers like Chandragupta Maurya and Ashoka.

In pre-Shivaji era, Mores were Maratha sardars under sultanates of Deccan; later, when they resisted King Shivaji's Swarajya kingdom, they were punished. After that, more Mores joined the Maratha cavalry of King Shivaji and remained active and trusted lieutenants of Maratha Empire.
