Monkton, Pembroke

Monkton is a village in Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales. According to the United Kingdom Census 2001, there are 1688 inhabitants of the village.[1].

Monkton was ranked the 14th most disadvantaged place in Wales in 2000[2] and was given access to the Communities First programme. Monkton Communities First Website

Education

Monkton has a primary school called "Monkton Priory Community Primary School" which has approximately 221 pupils.[3] It also has a dedicated centre for gypsy traveller learners known as the "Monkton Priory School Project".[4]

Community

A large part of the community consists of gypsy travellers and reside at a gypsy site called "Castle Quarry" (formerly known as Catshole Quarry)[5]

Pembrokeshire Action To Combat Hardship has a base in the village.
