Miroslav Benka (Serbian Cyrillic: Мирослав БЕНКА) (born April 22, 1956) is a Serbian screenwriter, actor, director and a designer.

Life and work

He was born in Ašanja in Vojvodina (ex Yugoslavia) in a Slovak family. He graduated from the College of Applied Arts in design and from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, Acting Department. He also graduated from the Faculty of Drama Arts in Belgrade, Directing Department. Benka was guest professor at the Faculty of Drama Arts in Bratislava and International University in Novi Pazar, as well as a Director and Artistic Director of the City Drama Theatre in Zilina, Slovak Republic and Managing director and Artistic director of National Theatre Sterija in Vrsac and Managing director and Artistic director of Vrsac Autumn Theatre Festival, Yugoslavia. Benka directed as many as 60 theatrical performances classical and contemporary playwrights. He directed documentaries films and advertisements, TV shows, music clips, radio dramas and multimedia – ambience projects (Lux in Tenebris made in one of the most beautiful Castles Bojnice).

With his performance suuccessfully participated in Belgrade International Theatre Festival – BITEF, in Novi Sad Sterija’s Theatre Festival in Sarajevo MESS, in Ljubljana EX PONTO, in Zagreb Dance Week Festival, in Užice Yugoslav Theatre Festival, in Prešov Slovak Theatre Festival, in Divadelná Nitra, as well as Austria, Egypt, Finland, Hungary, Iran, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Yugoslavia...

Significant work in the physical theatre (S.O.S., Mäkké Sny (Soft Dreams), Panem et Circenses (Bread and Plays), Maľované inovaťou (Painted in Frost), Obrazy môjho sveta (Images of My World). In almost all of his performances he is the author of total design. He exhibited at the World Stage Design Exhibition of Quadrienalle in Prague. Other exhibitions include: Ours in Prague – Gallery Progres, Belgrade, Yustat – Biennale of Stage Design, Museum of Art and Crafts, Belgrade and Triennale of Theatre Scenography and Costume Design, Novi Sad.
