Mini-Comet was a kiddie roller coaster at Hersheypark that was in operation from 1974 until at least 1977.[1]
The Mini-Comet was an oval shaped kiddie coaster. It operated in two locations in Hersheypark. Very little information is known about the ride, and there are very few pictures. Charles J. Jacques wrote in his book Sweetness of Success that it was an Allen Herschel built ride.[1] However, based on a picture claimed to be from 1978, it appears to be a Carl Miler ride.[2]
What is definitively know about Mini-Comet is that it is shown on Hersheypark's 1974,[3] 1975 and 1977 maps, but not on the 1973 or 1980 maps.[4] The name was also thought to be Little Comet,[2] but park maps showing the ride say Mini-Comet.
The ride was in at least two locations in the park. In 1974, it was in Comet Hollow on the west bank of Spring Creek between the high bridge and the ride Mini-Comet was named for, The Comet. By 1977, it relocated to the current Minetown area of the park, where the current park entrance to ZooAmerica is, as well as a food stand. In 1980, it was no longer in the park.[4]
