Mike Russell (radio presenter)

Mike Russell is a radio presenter[1] from Tunbridge Wells in Kent in the United Kingdom.

Biography

Mike began his career working for as an ambient replenisher for now defunct supermarket Gateways in Shaftesbury in the late 1990s, before joining Key Markets in Crawley. In his first position in radio he was trained by the producer Dave Owen at West Kent station KFM. In 2000 he took over as their evening show presenter.

He moved to Australia and joined Kool FM in Cairns as breakfast host, before returning to the UK and presenting a show in the same time slot on Bexleyheath's newly-relaunched Time FM.

Mike fronted breakfast for the new local radio licence holder in Maidstone, CTR 105.6 (now KMFM Maidstone), in 2003 and was a stand-in presenter for KMFM Thanet, before leaving to join national DAB outfit Capital Life in 2004, hosting their drivetime show for two years, whilst freelance producing within the GCap group. During this time, he also produced Charlie Wolf's overnight phone-in on the national outlet talkSPORT at weekends, amongst other shows for the station.

Mike left GCap to begin hosting the mid-morning show on Slough's Time 106.6 from the summer of 2006 onwards; in May 2007, he successfully attempted to break the world record for the longest continuous radio broadcast by a single presenter, at 126 hours non-stop without sleep. He left the station in November 2007, and briefly presented Drivetime on Wire FM in Cheshire in early 2008. He is now working as a producer for Rock Radio in Manchester, City Talk 105.9 in Liverpool, and as a breakfast presenter for KMFM Medway.

Outside his presentation commitments, Mike runs an audio production company.
