Club career

Garcia, a product of the youth teams of Sporting Clube de Portugal, made his debuts with the first team in 2003–04, in a 2–1 away defeat against Académica de Coimbra.

The 2004–05 season was remarkable for Garcia. First, against Sport Lisboa e Benfica, in the Portuguese Cup, he missed the penalty that eliminated Sporting in the round-of-16, on January 26, 2005. A few months after, on 5 May, in the last minute of extra time, he scored a header in the UEFA Cup semi-finals second leg against AZ Alkmaar, as Sporting lost 2–3 away but qualified through the away goals rule.

Garcia signed a pre-contract agreement with Reggina Calcio, joining the club in summer of 2007 after the contract with Sporting expired. He had a serious knee injury in October 2007, and did not play a single match the entire season for the Italian side. On 17 March 2008, Reggina communicated the decision to rescind his contract.[1]

In mid-July, after more than one year out of football, Garcia signed with Jorge Costa's S.C. Olhanense, freshly promoted to the top division. However, as João Pereira was signed from Sporting de Braga to former side Sporting, in late December 2009, he was chosen as his immediate replacement, moving for 50,000 in a one 1/2-year contract.

International career

Garcia was a member of the Portuguese U-21 team at the 2004 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship, which saw the team finishing third place, yet failing to gain a place to Athens for Olympic football.

He also appeared during the 2006 edition's qualifying stage, but failed to have a place in the final squad, as the tournament was held in Portugal.
