Michael Gunder

Michael Gunder is a Senior planning lecturer in the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Auckland, and is a past president of the New Zealand Planning Institute. He has a BA (Sociology), MA (Planning) and PhD in Planning.

Gunder has spent nearly three decades in government, as a consultant and in undertaking university research, and has worked in New Zealand, Canada and the European Union. He was HOD of the Planning Department, University of Auckland, 1999–2001, and is the author of over 60 academic articles and monographs. His main areas of expertise include public policy review, economic development, transportation and strategic planning, and his current academic research is focused on the application of poststructuralism and psychoanalytic theory towards the understanding of planning practice and public policy formulation.
