Metropolitan Police (Buenos Aires)

The Metropolitan Police is a police force being formed for the Autonomous City (or Federal District) of Buenos Aires. Currently security in the city is primarily the responsibility of the Argentine Federal Police. As of February 2011, it is composed of 1850 officers in about 10 neighbourhoods.

The force is planned by the government of the Autonomous City. The city government claims it wishes to create the new force on the model of the British London Metropolitan Police and the New York Police Department. The city government says the new force will use of high technology support and adopt a policy of zero tolerance.

Proposed Structure and Organization of the Metropolitan Police

The police will be headed by a Chief and a Deputy Chief. Both are appointed by the head of the executive branch of the City.

The structure will be in charge of four areas, each headed by a Director General:

Police will have a unique hierarchical system of seven degrees, which provides an opportunity to each incoming, attain the highest office. Oversight of the police (internal affairs) is external force, in charge of the executive branch through the Ministry of Justice and Security. [1]
