The Meritorious Professor is the most prestigious and highly ranked position in an academic industry. The professor who receives this position has a vast experience of teaching, research and academic administration nationally and internationally. The Meritorious Professor holds (BPS-22) Grade, which is the highest official ranking in Pakistan. The criteria for appointing or promoting Meritorious Professor is formulated by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan[1]. Whereas, the final approval is made by Governor of Province or President of Country which are the Chancellors of the Universities.
1. Requirement for advertisement of posts as provided in the relevant section of the University Act is dispensed with.
2. Each eligible university professor is invited to submit papers for consideration by the Special Selection Board (permanent members of the Selection Board, one representative of Chairman, HEC and one representative of Chancellor) for the award of BPS-22.
3. The Vice-Chancellor prepares the cases of Professors in BPS-21 for the award of BPS-22 and present the record of each such Professor on the proforma designed for this purpose, and approved as a part of the statutes along with (a) Annual Confidential Report (ACRs) for the last five years in BPS-21, and (b) a resume of the Professor and his/her achievements in research, teaching and educational administration.
4. The university calculates the total score of each eligible applicant according to the parameters. Those who secure a minimum score of 60 are presented before the Selection Board for consideration.
5. A meeting of the Special Selection Board is called to consider cases for award of BPS-22 and the recommendations is placed before the Syndicate. Finally, the recommendations of the Syndicate are sent to the Chancellor for approval.
6. All promotions to BPS-22 are effective from the date of recommendations by the Syndicate.
