The Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy or MJBHA is a coed Modern Orthodox Jewish day school serving the greater Washington area. The school has grades from Pre-K to 12. Originally founded in 1944, the school moved to its current location in Rockville, MD in 1999, changing its name from the Hebrew Academy of Greater Washington to its current name in the process. The student body consists of about 700 students, including 185 in the Upper School in the 2009-2010 school year. The school has a dual curriculum including secular subjects as well as judaics, with the school day generally split in order to cover both curricula. The recently developed NETA program currently serves as the Hebrew language curriculum for the school. [1]

The MJBHA fields cross-county, soccer, basketball, tennis, track and field, baseball, and volleyball teams. The teams compete in the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference.
Among the many extra-curricular programs that are available to MJBHA students, particularly those in its Upper School division, is a Mock Trial team that competes yearly with other local public high schools in Montgomery County, MD, which has consistently been ranked among the top teams in the competition. Also featured are Math League competitions, a yearbook staff and an Arts Department.
The Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy participates in the Yeshiva University National Model United Nations. MJBHA was ranked best delegation in 2011 [2].
The MJBHA has gone through pivotal changes in its administration over the past 5 years. In those five years, the headmaster, high school principal, lower school principal and middle school principal have all been replaced.
Grades 1, 2, and 3 consist of two classes: General (English) Studies and Judaica. By grade 4, there are three classes: English, Chumash, and Hebrew/Navi. In grade five, there are already four classes: English, Hebrew, Chumash, and Navi+Mishna. Middle School (grades 6-8) consists of eight subjects: English, Math, Science, World Studies, Hebrew, Navi, Talmud/Toshba, Chumash, and a special class selected by staff of music, art, or Zionism: a study of Israel becoming a Jewish state.
High School has nine periods, one of them being an elective.
