Mattarello (German: Madrell) is a small town in Trentino, Italy. It has been subsumed into a frazione of the comune of Trento, having previously been an independent comune. It has a population of 5,406. In the past it was a comune but the fascism delated it because of the wanted to do a "The big Trento" ("La grande Trento").
In Mattarello you can find the interdepartmental research centre CIBIO(Centre for Integrative Biology, part of University of Trento). The Centre will pursue the task of creating a suitable environment for merging classical cellular and molecular biology approaches with the new powerful tools of systems and synthetic biology, and with the contribution of chemistry, physics, informatics, mathematics, and engineering in an integrative view of basic biological processes and of their derangement in disease.
Trento airport is near the town, and there is an aeronautical museum, in the honour of Gianni Caproni.
