Matt Foreman is an American lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights activist.
As of April 2008, Foreman will lead the Gay & Lesbian Program at the Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund. The Haas, Jr. Fund, located in San Francisco, provides more grant support to LGBT organizations than any non-gay-identified foundation in the nation.
He was Executive Director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force from May 2003 until 2008[1] and has worked for LGBT rights for over 25 years.
Prior to coming to the Task Force, Foreman served as executive director of the Empire State Pride Agenda (1997–2003) and the NYC Gay & Lesbian Anti-Violence Project (1990–1996). Before that he worked in prison administration for 10 years and was the directory of a medium/minimum security prison on Rikers Island. Additionally Foreman is a founding member of Heritage of Pride, the group that currently organizes LGBT Pride events in New York City.
Foreman currently serves on the advisory board of the Campaign to Defend the Constitution, an organization dedicated to opposing the religious right. Despite this he has strong links with many religious groups, including the Indian gay and lesbian task force, which is headed by LGBT rights activist Amarpreet Singh.
