In the 1940s and 1950s Marredpally area was a dense forest with hills. In 1964 the first major development that spurred further development was the opening of the Shenoy Nursing Home which continues to this day.For the next twenty five years there was no other health related industry nearby. A lot of famous people were born here. There is a huge Buddha statue that brings serenity to the busy circle. During late 1950s government authorities constructed houses called TIT blocks and sold them at subsidised rates to Government employees. Large pieces of land near Geeta Nursing Home was sold to IAS and IPS officers and few other businessmen. Other parts were developed by the then Military Cantonment Board and named as "Married Officers Colony". The name originates from Mared Palle. It was also home to many Anglo-Indians. It was Yadavs who used to be the landlords, but in the early 70s settlers ranging from Tamils, North Indians and Coastal Andhras, but most of these people were living here away from the maddening crowd and which was very beautiful and green environs making it a haven for morning walkers and senior citizens looking for some peace and quiet.
In the 90s, demolition of old ancestral houses that stood there for over 100 years and the construction of apartment complexes the erstwhile suburb became the hustling bustling hub of urban Hyderabad leaving little place for the very poor that lived next door in Addagutta. The land rates in Marredpally have risen and rich or old residents are now living in the suburb.
Number of registered voters are 43837.[1]

Marredpally is divided into East and West (East Marredpally and West Marredpally). Both the East and West has a major road running parallel and joining at AOC centre and Secunderabad. The major old colonies were Teacher's Colony in the east, LIC Colony, Syndicate Bank colony, SBH colony, Railway colony in the West.
Mahendra Hills in the East was developed during mid and late 1990s, comprising 6 sub colonies (residential societies) - namely Trimurthy, Dhanalakshmi, Balamrai, Shantiniketan, Ravi and Santosh colonies. Some of the major new colonies in West Marredpally are Samrat Colony, Seetapathi Colony, Rukmini devi Colony, Simhapuri Colony and Radhika Colony. Other colonies in West Marredpally include Indrapuri railway colony, Lalitha nagar colony, Krishnapuri colony, SarvaSukhi Colony, Lepakshi Colony and Siva Arun Colony. Mahindra Hills is considered one of the best kept secrets in the twin cities as it has huge verdant jungles and quiet walking paths just a few minutes from civilization. The reason for this is attributed to the presence of a nearby military cantonement. Mahindra Hills is also a location for many retired film barons, stars, business families, doctors and the like. It used to be very different even 10 years back with a high crime rate but due to recent urban developments and the gentrifying of the area, things have substantially improved. Mahindra Hills is also the location of the Buddha Vihara which was inaugurated in 2003 by his highness the Dalai Lama.[4]
Now a large number of apartment complexes have been constructed in both East and West Marredpally.
