Markopoulo Oropou (Greek: Μαρκόπουλο Ωρωπού) is a town and a former community of East Attica, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Oropos, of which it is a municipal unit.[1]
Markopoulo Oropou is linked by road with Oropos, Kalamos, Malakasa and the GR-1/E75. Markopoulo is surrounded by olive trees, pasture farmlands, grasslands and hills. Pine trees and mountains dominate southward, farmlands are in valley areas as well. The South Euboic Gulf covers the north which offers a panoramic view of the island of Euboea. Markopoulo Oropou is located about ENE of Athens and north of Rafina.
Businesses are the most popular industry in Markopoulo Oropou, agriculture dominates the central part and away from its beaches. Housing developments came in the 1990s but slowly boomed.
