Mark Lockheart (born Lymington, 1961) is a British jazz tenor saxophonist who came to prominence as a member of the Loose Tubes big band during the 1980s.[1]
Subsequently he played with Django Bates[2] as well as in the group Perfect Houseplants featuring Dudley Phillips & Martin France.[3]
In 2001 the Arts Council of England awarded a grant for a tour by his Scratch Band who recorded an album "Imaginary Dances".[4] More recently his compositions have been recorded with the NDR Big Band.[5][6]
He has also played in sessions with Radiohead, Prefab Sprout, Stereolab and many others. Lockheart currently teaches at Trinity College of Music in London and at Middlesex University.[2] and is a tutor for the National Youth Jazz Collective. He also plays in British jazz quintet Polar Bear.[1][7]
