Manuden is a village and civil parish in Essex, England. It is located 6 km (3.7 mi) north of Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire and is 33 km (21 mi) northwest of the county town of Chelmsford. The village is in the district of Uttlesford and in the parliamentary constituency of Saffron Walden. The village has its own Parish Council.[1]
Part of Manuden is designated as a conservation area[2], with several listed buildings in and around the village.[3]
The local church is St Mary the Virgin. A tablet in the church commemorates William Wade who spent his retirement at Battles Hall in Manuden and is buried at the church.[1]
There is a primary school in the village.[4]. In 2010, Manuden County Primary School topped the league table for English schools at KS2 with all pupils attaining level 5 in both English and maths.[5]
There are several active village organisations, including a local history society, junior football club and a cricket club.[1]
Manuden is mentioned in the Domesday Book as one of the settlements within Clavering hundred.
