Makfi is by the winner of the Group 1 National Stakes at 2 and the Irish 2,000 Guineas and Prix Jacques Le Marois at 3 Dubawi. Makfi's dam, the unraced Green Desert mare Dhelaal, is a half-sister to dual highweight Alhaarth (Unfuwain).
On May 1, Makfi achieved classic success in the 2,000 Guineas Stakes, only his third career start as he inhaled game runner-up Dick Turpin in the closing strides. Leading up to the classic he won the Prix Djebel as prep. Makfi pulling away late in the piece almost mirrored his Djebel success and in the same race included undefeated last years European Champion Two year old colt.[1]
Makfi followed his Guineas success with a disappointing run in the St James's Palace Stakes at Ascot. However, he returned to his best form when winning the Prix Jacques le Marois, giving champion mare Goldikova a rare defeat over a mile. His final career start resulted in another disappointing run at Ascot in the Queen Elizabet II Stakes.
