Maicobi

Maicobi is village in Potaro-Siparuni, Guyana, on the right bank of the Potaro River near Tumatumari.

Demographics

The population of the village is 75 (1994 figure)[1] in about 30 households (2002 figure). The inhabitants are all Amerindians including members of the Macchusi, Carib and Patamona tribes, who have maintained much of their culture without any racial integration.[2]

Administration

Maicobi is managed by a Village Captain, a Vice Captain and five councilors.[2]

Economy

The main economic activities are subsistence farming[2] and the production of legumes for sale in neighbouring communities.[1]

Facilities

The village has two shops and a primary school.[2]

Transport

Access to the village is via the Potaro River.[2]
