Mageira is located southwest of Aigio, west of Athens and Corinth, north of Kalavryta southwest of the GR-8A/E65 (Athens - Corinth - Patras) and east of Patras.
Mageira was founded around 1750 and 1770 from residents of a large village Tsetsevos which it had at the time that suffered settling of villages. It was run along with some nearby created villages including Aragozaina (Alsos), Gropa (Lakka), Verino, Myrovryssi, Doukaneika and Synaina.
Mageira became an independent community from 1828 until 1997. The population was recorded for the first time by the French general Maison. It became a part of the municipality of Errineis until 1912, it reverted to Myrovryssi (Μυρόβρυσης) until 1919 and later with Aragozaina or Aragozena (Αραγόζαινας) until 1924 as its exceptions. The relocation also occurred in the 1930s where many inhabitants moved to the settlement of Avythos (Akoli) near Rododafni.
After World War II and the Greek Civil War, its buildings were rebuilt and emigration occurred at a higher rate until 1961 through to 1991, it became one of the few villages in mountainous Achaia to regain is population. Dessino was connected by asphalt roadin the 1980s. Electricity, radio and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late-20th century and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium. Mageira became a part of the newly formed municipality of Sympoliteias in 1997.
Today, it is a village with a few inhabitants, it is populated during the summer months. The population depends on agriculture especially on its olive productions.
