Machynys, or Machynys Peninsula is a coastal area in south Llanelli, formerly occupied by a tinplate works and housing for its workers. After the works' closure, the housing was emptied in the mid 1960s and the site remained largely derelict awaiting abortive regeneration plans.[1]

The site has been transformed beyond recognition since 1960.[2] It is now home to the Machynys Peninsula Golf & Country Club which hosts the Ladies Championship of Europe Welsh Open.[3] To the west of the golf course lies a recent development, Pentre Nicklaus (Welsh: Nicklaus Village), that consists of 175 New England style homes. Machynys is part of the Welsh Assembly Government's Llanelli Waterside regeneration plan.

The Llanelli Millennium Coastal Park, which includes National Cycle Network route 4, runs along the coast of Machynys. There are scenic views of the Gower Peninsula and the Bury Estuary from along the coast.

Machynys was shown as an island in two maps, more notably in the more recent map of the Stepney Estate in 1761. This was only the case when the tide was in. The land was once occupied by a farm, terraced housing and a tinplate works.

Machynys lies in the Llanelli Town Council and Carmarthenshire County Council ward of Glanymor.
