Maccagno is a comune (municipality) of c. 2,000 inhabitants in the province of Varese in the Italian region Lombardy, located in the Val Veddasca about 70 km northwest of Milan and about 25 km northwest of Varese.
In 1622 Giacomo III Mandelli - count of Maccagno - got from the emperor Ferdinand II of Habsburg the privilege to mint coins in its fief.
