Máximo Tajes (1852–1912) was a Uruguayan political figure [1].

Background

Tajes came from a military background. He was a member of the Colorado Party (Uruguay), which ruled the country almost uninterruptedly for a century.

In 1886 his Colorado Party (Uruguay) colleague President Máximo Santos, with whom, however, he had poor relations, stepped down from his second term of office.

He was succeeded as President by his Colorado Party (Uruguay) colleague Julio Herrera y Obes.

Legacy and death

A road in Carrasco, Montevideo, is names after Máximo Tajes.

He died in 1912.
