Lusiana (Cimbrian / German: Lusaan) is a small town in the province of Vicenza, Veneto, Italy. It is west of SP72. Lusiana had an estimated population of 2,926.[2]
The small town is the birthplace of Italian-born, Indian politician Sonia Gandhi, widow of Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India. As of 2007[update], she was named the third most powerful woman in the world by Forbes magazine in the year 2004 and currently ranks 6th.. Sonia Gandhi was born in a small quarter ("contràda" in Italian) called “Màini” where families with the family name “Màino” have been living for many generations. [3] [4] [5]
