Lurup is a quarter in the Altona borough of the Free and Hanseatic city of Hamburg in northern Germany. It was a former independent town. In 2006 the population was 33,459.

In 1927 Lurup was merged into Altona, and in 1938 it was merged with Altona into Hamburg with the Greater Hamburg Act.
In 2006 according to the statistical office of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, the quarter Lurup has a total area of 6.4 km².
The western border is the railway tracks of the city train to the quarter Eidelstedt of the borough Eimsbüttel. In the North is the state Schleswig-Holstein and in the East the quarter Osdorf. In the South is the border to the quarter Bahrenfeld.
In 2006 in the quarter Lurup were living 33,459 people. The population density was 5,247 /km2 (13,590 /sq mi). 19.7% were children under the age of 18, and 19.6% were 65 years of age or older. 15.3% were resident aliens. 2,003 people were registered as unemployed and 9,997 were employees subject to social insurance contributions.[1]
In 1999 there were 15,043 households out of which 25.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them and 37.9% of all households were made up of individuals. The average household size was 2.14.[2]
In 2006 there were 3,035 criminal offences (91 crimes per 1000 people).[3]
The population is counted by the residential registration office for 31 December each year.[1]

There were 5 elementary schools and 6 secondary schools with 3,343 pupils in the quarter.[4]
The sports club SV Lurup with a soccer department in the Oberliga Nord (2007/2008) has its home ground in the Jonny Arfert arena at the street Flurstrasse.
In Lurup were 22 day care centers for children and also 32 physicians in private practice and 5 pharmacies.[4]
Lurup is serviced by the rapid transit system of the city train with the station Elbgaustrasse on the border to Eidelstedt and the station Krupunder on the border to Halstenbek. Puplic transport is also provided by buses.
According to the Department of Motor Vehicles (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt), in the quarter were 11,707 private cars registered (353 cars/1000 people).[4] There were 152 traffic accidents total, including 121 traffic accidents with damage to persons.[5]
