A number of industrial buildings are located in Lumut, notably the Brunei Liquefied Natural Gas Plant, one of the largest natural gas liquefaction plants in the world. An industrial park, SPARK (Sungai liang industrial PARK) is located there. A methanol producing plant, Brunei Methanol Plant is located inside the industrial park. It produces 2500 metric tons of methanol daily.[2]
A number of archaeological findings were made in Lumut, the most notable of which was the finding of artifacts from the 15th century.[3] Over 9000 artifacts were found, most of which were porcelain from China.[3] The artifacts found were from the Tang Dynasty, Song Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty and Ming Dynasty eras.[3] These are thought to have been used in 500 to 700 burials.
A two lane trunk road passes through Lumut. It is the only route between Kuala Belait and the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan. A new dual carriageway, Telisai-Lumut Highway is being built and is expected to be completed in 2013.
