Luarca (Ḷḷuarca in asturian) is one of 15 parroquias and the capital in the municipality of Valdes, in Asturias, Spain. Situated at an elevation of 110 m (360 ft) above sea level, it has a population of 5,354 (2008), and an area of 5.94 km2 (2.29 sq mi). The village is 90 km (56 mi) from the capital, Oviedo. The Nobel laureate for medicine in 1959, Severo Ochoa, was born in Luarca.
