Lonnie Hanzon

Lonnie Hanzon is an artist based in Colorado.

Biography

Raised in Pine, Colorado, Hanzon's career started in the performing arts and fashion design, but soon he was being hired to creat major public works of art, large-scale urban entertainment projects, and private fine art commissions. His various product lines and licensing deals have run the gamut from sculpted designer lollipops for Hammonds Candy to high-end costume jewelry.

Career highlights

Hanzon headlined three HGTV holiday specials, from 2003 to 2005, that featured his work on Neiman Marcus' annual holiday extravaganza. In 2005, The Food Network aired a special in which Hanzon took the ultimate BBQ Rig Design Challenge.

• Created several landmark public works of art, including EVOLUTION OF THE BALL,^[1] a massive gateway sculpture at Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies. Other major Colorado installations can be seen at Red Rocks Community College, Kenneth King Performing Arts Center, Denver Botanic Gardens, and Olde Town Arvada.

• Directed and designed the revitalization and renovation of Denver's downtown holiday scene. The long-ignored downtown district was reignited with displays on the mile-long Pedestrian Mall,^[2] in historic Larimer Square and Union Station, and around Lower Downtown. Hanzon also rebuilt the annual Parade of Lights, giving new life to thirteen electrical floats and hundreds of costumed paraders.

• Denver newspaper, Westword, published Hanzon in their annual "Best Of" issue, saying Hanzon accepted a permanent position as Wizard in Residence, Master Artist and Program Director at the Museum of Outdoor Arts in Englewood, Colorado.^[3]
