The River Seiont runs alongside the village and is a popular angling river. There is a fish hatchery in the Crawiau area of the village run by the Seiont, Gwyrfai and Llyfni fishing association.

Sport

Llanrug has a football club, Llanrug United F.C., established some 100 years ago. Llanrug United have played their home games in Cae Eithin Duon since the early 1970s. During the 1980s and 1990s some scenes were filmed in Llanrug for locally-televised Welsh-speaking comedy football programme C'mon Midffild. (come on midfielder). Some of the filmed scenes include Llanrug United F.C.'s playing pitch, Eithin Duon.

There is also a youth football team, nicknamed The Lions.

Climate

Like the surrounding area of Snowdonia, Llanrug has a temperate climate, generally wetter and colder than many areas of North West Wales, including Lleyn Peninsula and Anglesey. The annual mean temperature of Llanrug is around 10°C (50°F), due to the modifying effects of the Irish Sea restricting the temperature range less than other parts of the village. The village's snowiest and coldest month of the year is January, with the mean temperature between 0°C (32°F) and 4°C (40°F). Snow and ground frost can occur from late November into early April. Due to the close proximity of Snowdonia, the village normally expects sleet or heavy snowfall to fall at an average of 15 days every winter. During the summer, June and July are typically the warmest months with average temperatures ranging from 17°C (68°F) to 20°C (72°F).
