Lithobates is a subgenus of frogs of the genus Rana[1] found in Central and South America.
It was briefly proposed as a separate genus in 2006,[2] but that was rejected in later studies.[3]
As proposed as a distinct subgenus, Lithobates was restricted to four species:[4]
Other species are sometimes incorrectly placed in this subgenus, but it is defined to be restricted to just the four described species listed above.[5]
