7 January

• Schooner Lizzie R Wilce ( United Kingdom) wrecked on Porthminster Beach. Crew saved.^[1]

8 January

• Schooner Mary Barrow ( United Kingdom) beached on Porthminster beach. Crew saved.^[1] Refloated a week later.^[2]

19 January

• Epirus ( Greece) struck by Finland ( Belgium off Terneuzen () and sank.

April

24 April

• Ben Macdui ( Belgium) foundered off Egerö, Norway.^[3]

25 April

• HMS Gladiator ( Royal Navy) collided with SS Saint Paul  United States and sank off the Isle of Wight. A total of 128 crew killed.

May

3 May

• FV Auguste & Jean ( Belgium) rammed and sunk by SS Iris ( Belgium) 8 nautical miles (15 km) south west of the Noordhinder Lightship. Three of her four crew were lost.^[4]

June

7 June

• Sternwheeler City of Medicine Hat sank after striking the Traffic Bridge in Saskatoon, Canada.

July

21 July

• Cap Tarifa ( Belgium) foundered off the Burlings Lighthouse, Portugal.^[3]

October

30 October

• Taif ( Ottoman Empire) sank after collision with Bagdad off Seraglio Point, Constantinople.^[5]

November

4 November

• Schelde ( Belgium) Wrecked 20 nautical miles (37 km) north of Sapienza, Italy.^[5]

14 November

• Barque Falls of Halladale ( United Kingdom) ran aground near Peterborough, Victoria in fog. All 29 crew made it to safety.
