It has been proposed that Western Alamance High School and Western Alamance Middle School in Elon, NC change their names to Barack Obama High School and Barack Obama Middle School to honor the current president. An official with the Alamance-Burlington School Board has said that she does not anticipate the board discussing the idea.[9]

- In May 2011 it was reported that an Israeli settlement in the West Bank would be named after Obama, with permission granted by the Israeli government. The planned Obama settlement will be north east of Jerusalem.[20]
- Obama, Japan was not named after the President, but the city has established ties to benefit from the historical political event.
