Most expensive divorces
The recent Abramovich divorce
In October 2006, the English-language version of the Russian newspaper Pravda reported that Irina Abramovich (the wife of Russia’s richest man, Roman Abramovich) was preparing a divorce which could theoretically have entitled her to receive $9 billion--approximately half of her husband’s estimated $18 billion personal fortune (although she had requested to be awarded all of his current estate). [6]
In March 2007, the British newspaper The Guardian reported that Irina Abramovich had reached a negotiated settlement out-of-court with her husband for an estimated $300 million. [7]
Pending potentially expensive divorce
In October 2009, People magazine reported that a potential (or probable) divorce of Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt from his wife, Jamie, (the Dodgers' former CEO), would likely involve dividing the ownership of the team, valued at $722 million. [8]
