This is a list of notable NPCs in the role-playing video game series Neverwinter Nights.
Aarin Gend appears in the Original Campaign of Neverwinter Nights, making his first appearance in Act 2. He is Lord Nasher's spymaster and a former slave. He is actually a prisoner, serving his sentence as a dutiful employee to Neverwinter. His arrest and punishment was due to his association with Randall the Red, a vicious pirate. Aarin Gend is reputed to be a reluctant murderer; he avenged his mother's death by killing his former master, but he is ashamed of the act.
Whilst working for Lord Nasher, before meeting the Player Character, Gend was ordered to kill the leader of Neverwinter's thieves guild, a woman named Calliara. He was able to infiltrate the guild and became close to Calliara, eventually falling in love with her. Gend is unable to betray Lord Nasher and stay with her, however, and tells her he was sent to kill her. With neither willing to change their stance, a duel results, Aarin claiming a bitter victory.
If the PC is female, a romance is playable with Aarin through Acts 2, 3 and 4. Through a series of player-initiated dialogues, Aarin tells the PC about his childhood, his experiences with Randall and his service under Lord Nasher. After these conversations, Aarin will present the PC with an amulet. In Act 3, as long as the female PC has kept the amulet, the romance is continued through more player-initiated dialogues. These centre around the developing relationship between Aarin and the PC, ending in Aarin confessing his love for the PC. In Act 4, one conversation is available to the PC about the situation in a war ravaged Neverwinter. The male counterpart to this is a romance with Aribeth.
At the start of the game, the Lady Aribeth de Tylmarande was a close adviser of Lord Nasher (the ruler of Neverwinter), a paladin to the god Tyr and works to help find a cure for the Wailing Death. She was also the lover of Fenthick, a priest of Tyr who is hanged at the end of Act 1 for unknowingly aiding the spread of the Wailing Death. As a result of this, Aribeth starts to question what she previously believed to be unassailable truths: her loyalty to Neverwinter, her faith in Tyr, the quest to find the cause of the plague.
In Act II, in the same vein as the female PC's possible romantic interest in Aarin Gend, male PC's can attempt to romance Aribeth. Unfortunately, no matter how successful the player is with her, she betrays Neverwinter and joins the cult behind the Wailing Death, becoming a blackguard and their captain. It is later learned that dreams caused by Queen Morag had driven her from her faith in Tyr to see the Cult of the Old Ones as her true path. She can be killed by the player in Act IV or with correct conversation options, available according to the player's experiences and certain inventory items, she can be persuaded to return a male PC's affections and surrender to their authority, submitting herself for judgement by Lord Nashar for the crimes she committed (inevitably resulting in her hanging).
Aribeth makes a return in Act III of Hordes of the Underdark, and it is possible for her to become one of the player's Henchmen provided they complete a side quest. She is a paladin/blackguard, and will progress in one or other of the classes, depending on the choices made by the PC. Should the player's character be male, she can, like in the original game, become a romantic interest despite her incorporeal condition. When Mephistopheles attempts to turn Aribeth against the PC in the final battle of Hordes of the Underdark, a male character can express his love for her, which will affect the ending cinematic.
Boddyknock Glinckle is a male gnome sorcerer from Lantan, an island nation of mechanical wonders whom the hero of the original campaign encounters. Like most Lantanese gnomes, he is committed to a logical, scientific approach to his thoughts, and this cautious nature overshadows even the raw power granted by his sorcerous abilities. He is slightly obsessive with anything he does. Unlike the other companions in the first Neverwinter Nights game he does not appear in the Hordes of the Underdark expansion.
In the first three acts of the original campaign, Boddyknock has three sidequests, the latter two of which are only available if the player has completed the earlier quests. In Act I, Boddyknock tells the PC of his apprenticeship with a Lantanese sorcerer, Prophyro, and requests their help in finding a recipe for Leavened Bread. This is found on the body of a baker in a barricaded house in the Beggar's Nest and if surrendered to Boddyknock, results in Boddyknock giving the player a ring that increases Charisma and regeneration. In Act 2, Boddyknock tells the story of his father's beloved garden and his accidental destruction of it. He asks the player to help him find Prism Blossom seeds, which can be found in the Creator Ruins on the East Road. This results in an upgrade of the item received in Act 1. In Act 3, he tells the player of Gond's arrival on the island of Lantan and his assigned quest to find a dragon scale untainted by magic. This can be found in a cave in the Spine of the World and results in the final upgrade of his ring.
Daelan Red Tiger is a male Half-Orc fighter-barbarian raised by the Uthgardt tribe of the Red Tiger. He is an honorable warrior out to prove himself in the world, hoping to amend for his father's vileness, and to end the exile by his tribe. While some of his dialogue may be considered romantic towards female PC's, none of his lines differ between male and female characters, indicating he is not a true romance option. Daelan, like other OC henchmen, has three sidequests that take place in Chapters One to Three. In Chapter One, he tells the PC what he knows of his heritage and why he left his clan. He requests the PC's help in finding his mother's brooch, which can be found in a barrel in the Docks, and in return gives them an amulet that increases strength and grants immunity to fear. In Chapter Two, Daelan tells of his early days after leaving his clan - he became a mercenary in Luskan and gave in to his orcish bloodlust. He asks for the Player's help in locating the murderer of his mother by finding their weapon: a notched axe wielded by a dwarf in the Mutamin's challenge. In return, he upgrades the item he gave to the player in Chapter One. Daelan's final quest involves finding the spear of Uthgar, the founder of the Uthgardt people. This is a reward given to the player for solving the Elk Tribe's plague, and results in Daelan fully upgrading his amulet. Strangely, two of Daelan's quest items, his mother's brooch and Uthgar's spear, are not considered plot items and therefore can be sold.
Daelan is also available in Chapter 1 of Hordes of the Underdark as a henchman, but is prohibited from following you into Chapter 2 by Halaster. He became one of the most popular henchman in the original Neverwinter Nights for many fans.
Desther Indelayne is an antagonist in the original campaign. After the plague breaks out in Neverwinter, Desther and followers of his arrive, claiming to be priests of Helm sent to help cure the plague with their blessings. Upon the successful creation of a cure for the plague, Desther takes this potion and retreats through a portal to Helm's Hold. It is learned that Desther was actually an agent of Maugrim sent to Neverwinter to help spread the plague through his followers' "blessings", and that he and his false Helmites had killed the true Helmites and taken Helm's Hold as their base of operations. The hero follows Desther through his escape portal to Helm's Hold, confronting him there and defeating him in combat. Desther is then taken back to Neverwinter to face judgement, and is executed for his crimes along with Fenthick, who is unfairly denounced as having been in conspiracy with him.
Fenthick Moss is an elfish cleric of Tyr who is Lady Aribeth's lover in Chapter One of the original campaign. Fenthick is working to help find the cure to the Wailing Death, supposedly along with Desther, when Desther steals the cure shortly after its creation. Fenthick follows Desther in hopes of making him recant and ends up hanged for his "collaboration" with the false Helmite traitor Desther.
In Neverwinter Nights 2, the spirit of Fenthick appears in the Tomb of the Betrayers and must be defeated.
Grimgnaw is a dwarven monk and member of the Long Death, an evil monastic order which worships the very essence of death, which is personified as the "Silent Lord", and seeks to bring as many living beings to death as possible. He was originally from the clan of Bruenor Battlehammer, the king of Mithril Hall, but left to pursue initiation into the order of the Long Death. Akin to the cult, Grimgnaw has a deep, morbid fascination with death and dying and detests undead, as he believes undeath to be a means of escaping a natural death. In the original campaign, Grimgnaw is one of several henchman who can be hired by the main character. His quests involve finding the ring of a failed initiate of the Order of the Long Death, which can be found in a house in the No-Man's Land of Blacklake, finding a mummified corpse hand to free undead members of his order, which is found in the Tomb of the Arcane Brother north of Port Llast, and finding a dagger that can be used to kill one of the elders of his order, which is found in Coldwood in the bandit orc camp. His amulet, which is upgraded every chapter, increases constituent and spell resistance, eventually granting immunity to death magic.
In the Hordes of the Underdark campaign, Grimgnaw is encountered in Cania. It is said that after the Hero of Neverwinter defeated Morag, Grimgnaw mysteriously vanished, and due to his presence in Cania, apparently died somehow. Grimgnaw informs you that as Mephistopheles has abandoned Cania, it is necessary for it to have a new ruler, and proclaims himself this ruler. He is accompanied by several companions, including Maugrim and Balpheron (a lich, which is ironic seeing as how Grimnaw is reputed to despise undead in any form), as well as the minotaur showed at the Neverwinter Nights Original game, fighting Lord Nasher Alagondar, who support his claim to leadership of Cania. Believing that the hero poses a threat to his rule, Grimgnaw and his companions attack him/her, forcing him/her to defeat them.
Haedraline is a Word Slave in the original campaign, one of the Creator Race who was bound to the Words of Power. The player first meets her in the third act while searching for the words of power, and she offers help in finding the Words and eventually defeating Morag.
In Chapter Three, her help is dubious, offering only warnings about Morag and Maugrim, and insisting the Words of Power be found. She offers to tell the player about the history of the Creator Race and the Words: The North of Faerun was once a tropical jungle, ideal for the cold-blooded Creator Race, but as it began to cool the ruler of the Creator Race made the Source Stone and the Words of Power, magical artifacts capable of warming the entire planet. Haedraline explains that the Source Stone, buried beneath Neverwinter in its dormant state, is why the city never experiences harsh winters. In Chapter Four, Haedraline presents herself to the rulers of Neverwinter, who imprison her thinking she is aligned with the other members of the Creator Race. She alerts the city to the presence and location of the Source Stone, and tells the player how to access it to defeat Morag.
Linu La'neral is a female elven cleric of the elven goddess, Sehanine Moonbow. She hails from the city of Evereska. Linu is clumsy (some say unfortunate), often causing accidents in her wake. She has a somewhat naive world view but is well liked by many players for her constantly positive outlook and her kindheartedness to the player character and others. She has a great deal of humorous lines and stories, including how she met her now dead husband.
Due to her outgoing and affectionate nature, many of her lines can be interpreted as romantic towards male PC's. Some flirting is possible, and as long as a male PC completes all three of her quests and is kind to her, a romance is possible. However, the romance has much less dialogue than other NPC options (notably Aarin Gend and Aribeth), and is more of an implied future romance. As such it is unlikely she was intended to be a full romance option. Linu reappears in the first chapter of Hordes of the Underdark.
Lord Nasher Alagondar is a retired adventurer and the ruler of the city of Neverwinter in the original campaign. When he was a younger man, his family was murdered by a minotaur of known infamy, whom he slew out of vengeance. Following this event, he spent a decade long period of adventuring with companions, before retiring as Lord of Neverwinter. Lord Nasher returned as a more prominent NPC in Neverwinter Nights 2.
Sharwyn is a female human bard originally from the city of Neverwinter. She has a relatively neutral outlook on the world and is fascinated with music and stories. She is available as a henchman in Neverwinter Nights and Hordes of the Underdark.
It is discovered, through her henchman mini-quest in Chapter 1, that Sharwyn was the daughter to a widow who squandered her father's fortune due to her love of the wealthy lifestyle. Sharwyn's mother attempts to set her up to seduce her way into a Lord's bed, but Sharwyn instead falls in love with a poor Bard at a party for the Lord. After some time of being the Bard's secret lover, they are discovered and forced to flee. Sharwyn has seen her mother since then, but is hated by her for having abandoned her. However, as her mother is yet on her deathbed, Sharwyn feels the need to cure her. Giving Sharwyn the Celestial Elixir completes the Chapter 1 mini-quest.
Chapter 2 tells the story of Sharwyn and her Bard lover after fleeing the Lord. They traveled the countryside for many years before being summoned to the castle of a famous King and Queen. While the King is a portly man who cares nothing for music, the Queen is a beautiful young woman who takes a shine to the Bard. As they eventually continue to perform, and eventually move into the castle, Sharwyn begins to suspect that her lover is having an affair with the Queen, especially once he begins to be summoned for private shows. Eventually, Sharwyn's suspicions are confirmed, and she runs away. To this day, her lover continues to live in the company of the Queen, but Sharwyn has since discovered the reason for his infidelity was a magic spell cast by the Queen to make herself look young: in reality, she is old and rather fat. By giving Sharwyn the item that can break the spell, she vows to free her lover and expose the Queen (although she admits that she is over the Bard, and no longer cares for him: her vendetta against the Queen is merely for vengeance).
Chapter 3 Sharwyn seeks a tale to tell. She attempts (unsuccessfully) to tell the player of the stories of the Neverwinter hero (i.e., the player), and of Aribeth's betrayal. Eventually, Sharwyn tells the story of an elvyn man who lived a good life with his wife and children, but felt it lacked something. He left on a quest to find the Goddess of love. Upon finding her, he beseeched her to tell him the meaning of love. She agreed to tell him if he could find her 3 bounties. It took the elf many centuries to accomplish the task, and when he was completed, he was told his family had died of a disease in his absence. The elf wailed in sorrow for his family, his cries becoming a song dedicated to love. The Goddess of love descended and lifted him to Arvandor to join his wife and children in eternity. The Item that Sharwyn can be given here is the actual transcript of the elf's song.
Throughout the game, it is possible to flirt with Sharwyn if you are a male character. The journal entry "Henchman" actually refers to her as "a beautiful bard". When Sharwyn speaks of the beauty of the Queen her lover left her for, players can respond with "well, you aren't exactly a hobgoblin yourself". In chapter 3,when asked why she should tale a tale just for you, you can respond with "because I love listening to the sound of your lovely voice?" and she responds with "Mmm..tempting, I must admit. Perhaps I should ask you to remove your tunic while I speak, just to be equal." and laughs. Giving her the transcript has her refer to you as a friend, after which you can admit that you wish to be more than that. She reacts with pleased surprise and says she would like it as well, saying that she does "adore you, I want you to know that." and that she would like to take things forward once the Words of Power are found. Finally, if players take Sharwyn with them in Chapter 4, in the passages of the Source Stone, Sharywn asks the player if they have any regrets. One possible response is "we've never kissed. Does that count?" Sharwyn responds that, considering their deaths are probably around the corner, she could probably be talked into it.
Tomi Undergallows, or "Grin", as he is often known, is a male halfling rogue from the land of Calimshan. An escaped prisoner from the Neverwinter Peninusula District Prison, he is wanted for a number of crimes, including 'deflowering' a Pasha's daughter and pickpocketing. Carefree and mischievous, Tomi rarely seems to take things seriously. Both male and female characters can become good friends with him if he is hired as a henchman, but romance appears to be out of the question. While Tomi is primarily from the original campaign, he is also an available henchman in Chapter 1 of Hordes of the Underdark. He is rumored to have been murdered shortly after leaving Waterdeep by his "nemesis" Sammy.
Kurth is one of five High Captains of Luskan, the rulers of the city. During the events of game, there are only him and Baram left, and they are stuck in an endless war. Interestingly, Kurth was, once, a friend of Nasher Alagondar. Player will have an option to kill him, or Baram, or both.
Baram is one of five High Captains of Luskan, the rulers of the city. However, only two of the High Captains are left alive: he, and Kurth. He is at war with Kurth. Player will have an option to kill him, or Kurth, or both.
Vengaul Bloodsail is the swashbuckling leader of the Bloodsailors in the original campaign. He and Nasher Alagondar have a long history of rivalry. Vengaul also appears in the Pirates of the Sword Coast premium module as a major character.
Maugrim Korothir is a Servant of Morag (her second in command), Maugrim unleashed the Wailing Death upon Neverwinter and, being one of Morag's elites, plays a key role in the masterminding of the attack on Neverwinter. He is killed in his pocket plane during the siege of Neverwinter.
The protagonist of Hordes of the Underdark later kills him again (in the Eighth Hell of Baator), when Maugrim's soul is encountered as one of Grimgnaw's followers.
Morag is the main antagonist in the original NWN campaign. Ten-thousand years before the events of the campaign, Morag was a queen of the Creator Race, a powerful and cruel race of lizardmen from whom the present lizardfolk are descended. At that time, the continent of Faerun was a jungle, but after an ice age dawned upon Faerun, the Creator Race was all but wiped out. In order to sustain themselves, Morag and a handful of her subjects entered an alternate dimension via a magical device known as the Source Stone, which protected them from the cold. Ten millennia later, at the time that the campaign has taken place, the city of Neverwinter has been constructed over the area where the Source Stone lies. Morag desires to regain her power and turn the continent of Faerun into a jungle once more, over which she shall rule as of old. One day Maugrim, who had heard rumors of the Source Stone, encounters it while on a search, and triggers the plague, which is a defense system of the Source Stone. Though infected and dying, Morag uses her power to heal Maugrim and tells him of her ambitions. As she will be able to gain power over from those who die within the vicinity of the Source Stone, she commands Maugrim to spread the plague throughout Neverwinter, which he does. After the execution of Fenthick, Morag begins to appear to Aribeth in her dreams, tempting her to defect to Maugrim's cause as a means of revenge against Neverwinter for seeking Fenthick's death. Aribeth eventually gives in, and agrees to lead a Luskan army in an attack on Neverwinter. Meanwhile, she also has Maugrim and his cult seeking the four Words of Power, ancient Creator artifacts that contain magical power which Morag can use to free herself from the Source Stone. Though the hero succeeds in recovering three of these Words before Maugrim can, the one that Maugrim does find is the most powerful of all, and combined with the power that Morag has already gained from those who have died of the plague and during the siege of Neverwinter, which is taking place by now, Morag has regained enough power to break free of the Source Stone, and will do so imminently. After killing Maugrim and recovering the last Word of Power, in order to prevent Morag's return, the hero uses the four Words of Power to enter the Source Stone and confront Morag. In the ensuing fight, the hero kills Morag and the realm contained within the Source Stone begins to implode. In order to save the hero, Haedraline opens a portal to an "astral pocket", which allows the hero to escape from the Source Stone, and subsequently opens a portal that leads back to Faerun.
Ayala is an elven Harper and associate of Drogan in Shadows of Undrentide. She comes to his aid after he is poisoned in the kobold attack on his home and uses her magic to keep him alive while she organizes the effort to recover the artifacts stolen by the kobolds.
Belpheron is an ancient lich of great magical power referred to in Shadows of Undrentide as a villain who once tried to destroy Faerun; the mentor of Heurodis; and the original owner of the mummified hand, one of the four artifacts assigned to Master Drogan's guardianship by the Harpers and the only part of Belpheron's body that remained after he was destroyed.
In Hordes of the Underdark, the hero encounters Belpheron in Cania as one of Grimgnaw's followers and is forced to defeat him.
Ashtara is an Asabi slaver who enslaves the player character inside the Undrentide. The player will have no option to resist his magic, and thus find a way to act even though being a slave. When the player kills Heurodis, Undrentide falls down, destroying all its inhabitants, including Ashtara, thus freeing the player.
Deekin Scalesinger is a kobold bard and is completely obsessed with the main character. Deekin talks in a 3rd-person style similar to the Harry Potter character Dobby. He is always writing a book and will even ask some of the henchmen: "Deekin pencil you in as sidekick maybe? Or how about Deekin's devoted fan?" He is afraid of dragons because although he is part dragon, his last "boss", Tymofarrar, was a white dragon. Despite his fear, however, he deeply respects the player and is very loyal to him/her. He is the only henchman who, at the closing battle of Hordes of the Underdark, can be convinced to resist Mephistopheles's attempts to sway him without the use of either a Persuade check or his True Name.
Deekin is first met in the NWN Expansion Shadows of Undrentide, where he has run away from his master Tymofarrar. He agrees to give the player the Tower Statue if they will talk to Tymofarrar and negotiate his release. He becomes a henchman in the Interlude, and follows the player character until the end of the game. Deekin will give the PC the chance to allow him to improve his "sneaky skills" and level him up as a rogue, but such changes are not reflected later on. In Hordes of the Underdark, Deekin can become a henchmen again, and is the only henchman available in all three chapters of the game. During the course of the player's adventures, Deekin can become a Red Dragon Disciple, or remain a Bard. Deekin is considered to be one of the best Henchmen in Hordes of the Underdark for his ability to invoke Bard spells and inflict damage if he continues the Red Dragon Disciple class.
In Neverwinter Nights 2, Deekin appears as a merchant in Neverwinter. This does not, however, reflect what was said at the end of Hordes of the Underdark about Deekin's future. He can later be recruited to come to Crossroad Keep.
Dorna Trapspringer is a female dwarven cleric/rogue. Good-hearted and somewhat cynical, Dorna is one of the disciples of the master adventurer, Drogan Droganson.
Drogan Droganson is a renowned dwarven wizard and cleric of Mystra who is mentor to the protagonist of Shadows of Undrentide and his/her fellow students. He is also secretly a member of the Harper organization. After kobolds attack Drogan's home to steal the artifacts that he protects on behalf of the Harpers and he is stricken with poison during the attack, Drogan places the hero in charge of recovering the artifacts while Ayala, a fellow Harper, nurses him back to health. Drogan later, after recovering his health, teleports to the hero's side to aid him/her in reactivating a portal in some ruins in the Anauroch Desert through which a mysterious woman leading a group of demonic creatures was seen entering. Upon the reactivation of the portal, a booby trap set by the woman is activated, causing the ruins to cave in. Drogan sacrifices himself to save the hero by using his magic to hold up the ruins long enough for the hero to enter the portal and escape.
J'Nah is a half-fiend Elf who appears in the first chapter of SoU (Shadows of Undrentide) as an antagonist. She had made a deal with the white dragon, Tymofarrar to acquire the four relics in the keeping of Drogan Droganson. In her betrayal, she sent a group of Gnolls under her control to attack Tymofarrar's Kobolds (who were sent in ahead of time because Tymofarrar wished to see the artifacts for himself first) who were returning from hilltop with the artifacts. Due to this betrayal, Tymofarrar wants her dead and will offer an Item which will aid in killing her. J'Nah is working in the service of Heurodis in trying to acquire the Tower Statue which contains within it a mythallar.
Tymofarrar is a young white dragon who leads the kobold tribes in the Nether Mountains. He is the one responsible for the kobold attack on Drogan's home and the theft of the artifacts at the beginning of Shadows of Undrentide. While he was informed of the artifacts' existence by J'nah, he freely betrays her and asks the player character and party to kill her, providing them with some magic powder designed specifically to disrupt J'nah's half-fiend heritage. Unless the PCs secure a vow from him, Tymofarrar is quite willing to betray and attempt to kill them on their return. As an experiment, Tymofarrar has attempted to train Deekin to be more intelligent and cultured than the average kobold with a measure of success. Throughout both expansions, Deekin may relate tales which describe Tymofarrar as a harsh and cruel master. Despite this, Tymofarrar seems to have a soft spot for Deekin, and if the player bargains for the kobold's freedom, Tymofarrar encourages Deekin to seek out his dreams. According to Deekin, Tymofarrar sometimes likes to use a human form so that he can purchase pies at a local tavern.
Xanos Messarmos is a male half-orc barbarian/sorcerer. He is quite intelligent but is egotistical and somewhat power-hungry. Xanos is one of the disciples of the master adventurer, Drogan Droganson. Xanos is arrogant, but always has a point and tells ironic jokes about other people. He claims that his sense of wisdom and skills excel the others, but in truth he lacks both such qualities.
Heurodis is the main antagonist in Shadows of Undrentide, though her real identity isn't revealed to the player until act two. A sorceress who studied under Balpheron and seeks to lay claim to the secrets of the Netheril, Heurodis is a medusa lich who kills Drogan and turns the player into stone before raising the city of Undrentide. After being returned to flesh by lizardmen, the player must fight their way through Undrentide and defeat Heurodis to save Fareûn.
Halaster is an insane but very powerful wizard responsible for creating "Undermountain", a network of dungeons under Waterdeep. The first time the player meets him, he is being held captive by a Drow priestess who is trying to extract information from him on how to open the portal to Waterdeep so more drow can enter. Halaster refuses to talk. After you have killed the drow and released Halaster, he demonstrates his power by effortlessly wiping out a large platoon of drow that try to attack. Halaster, who speaks entirely in rhymes, reveals to the player his plot to lure the Valsharess out with his clone and kill her. The clone appears and they start arguing over which one of them is the real Halaster. The meeting ends with Halaster putting a Geas on the player character to kill the Valsharess and teleporting them to the Underdark. Halaster lets the player keep Deekin as a companion but returns any others to the surface world.
Halaster and his clone make a return in Neverwinter Nights: Infinite Dungeons.
The Knower of Names has knowledge of all true names. After seducing her, Mephistopheles used her to expose the treacherous nature of the devil generals who served him. He then bound each of them beneath the ice of Cania, and imprisoned the Knower to protect himself from the power of his true name. The Knower can reveal the true name of several major characters, including the protagonist and their henchmen (the protagonist's name being based on their alignment). In order to learn Mephistopheles' true name, the protagonist must ask for the Knower's true name first (Pyreshi the Knower).
Nathyrra was a former member of the Red Sisters order of Drow assassins, and now a devout follower of Eilistraee. She is first met in the bowels of Undermountain offering assistance in freeing Halaster. She is later available as a henchman in Chapter 2, and is one of the romance options for male characters throughout the expansion. If the player continues this romance throughout Chapter 2, then she will tell the player that she loves him in Chapter 3. Nathyrras true name is Qeyifalia the Skyseeker.
The Reaper is a pivotal character in Hordes of the Underdark. His realm is accessible to the player via the Relic of the Reaper, which is described as having come into the player's hands while they were in the Plane of Shadow after the fall of Undrentide in the second game. During the first half of the game, he serves the same purpose the Stone of Recall in the original campaign, drawing the player into his realm if he or she dies and reviving them as long as they have a Rogue Stone. Players can also use the Reaper's realm to set up a network of portals so they can mark places and then return there by passing through 'the Gatehouse' as the Reaper calls it. During Chapter 3, the player finds out the Reaper has been under the control of Mephistopheles the whole time, commanded to do the archdevil's bidding because he holds the Reaper's True Name. The Reaper informs the player he or she can command him to let them return home if he or she finds his True Name as well. He does not openly say it, but the Reaper does not like Mephistopheles and only serves him because of the power of his True Name. In the end, once the player retrieves the Reaper's True Name, he admits that he enjoyed serving the player, but also states that they will never again meet. With that, he opens a gate to the final battle and ceases conversation.
The Seer is leader of drow rebels, priestess of Eilistraee (Drow Goddess of Song, dance and moonlight). She gathered several people to stand against the Valsharess, including Nathyrra and Valen. In Hordes of the Underdark (Act II) The Seer asks player, who she has foreseen as their saviour, to help the Rebels in their fight against the army of the Valsharess.
Valen Shadowbreath is a tiefling Weapon Master is first encountered in the rebel Drow encampment of Lith My'athar (Act two of Hordes of the Underdark).
Initially distrustful of the player, Valen nevertheless makes his services available, and is the romance option for female characters. Valen is a tremendously powerful warrior who makes a great tank for your small group. As a tiefling, or part-demon, he is constantly besieged by the violent nature of his infernal blood and his dark past. The player can choose to acquire Valen's true name near the end of the Hordes of the Underdark campaign. Before the final battle, the player then has a dialogue option to use Valen's true name (Oeskathine Demonwrestler) taint, thus saving him from his own blood. If this is not done, Mephistopheles offers to do the same for Valen, and he will turn against the player unless a successful persuade check is made, he is compelled against his own will to fight with you (by use of his True Name), or a female player has built up a strong enough relationship with him. He and Deekin have interesting conversations with each other when certain game triggers are tripped, like comparing the horrors they have experienced in the Blood Wars and as being a pet/servant/toothpick to a dragon.
The Valsharess is a drow queen ("valsharess" being a word for "empress" in the drow language, it can also mean trouble maker) in Hordes of the Underdark who leads an organization known as the Red Sisters. Desiring to rule the surface world, she organizes the subterranean invasion of Waterdeep and forges a pact with the archdevil Mephistopheles, which binds him to her service. After the hero rescues Halaster from the drow in Undermountain, Halaster places a magical geas on the player, forcing him/her to do his bidding and kill the Valsharess. The hero's hunt for her culminates after the drow invasion of Lith My'Athar. Upon pursuing the Valsharess' army to her keep, she commands Mephistopheles to teleport the hero into her courtroom, where she traps the hero within a magical barrier and then orders Mephistopheles to kill him/her. Mephistopheles, in turn, defies her order, killing the Red Sisters in the chamber instead and releasing the hero from his/her prison, allowing him/her to kill the Valsharess.
Mephistopheles was the Duke of the eighth plane of Baator (one of nine planes of the D&D equivalent of 'hell'). The player came upon the Relic of the Reaper while in the Realm of Shadows. The Relic, which is actually a piece of Mephistopheles' own flesh, binds you to him and prevents you from dying in Chapters 1 and 2 of Hordes of the Underdark. Mephistopheles tricks you into thinking that the Reaper is your servant but, when you try to go against Mephistopheles, he forces the Reaper to trap you in the 8th of the 9 Hells by using the Reaper's true name, allowing Mephistopheles to take your place on Toril. The only way to defeat Mephistopheles is to learn the Reaper's true name and get him to send you to Mephistopheles. There, you can kill him or learn his true name and command him to die.
Mephistopheles' goal is/was to make the Prime Material Plane the 10th Hell, thereby gaining control over the other 9 Hells. At the end of the game, you have the choice of either automatically fighting Mephistopheles or being able to choose to defeat, replace him (with him serving you) or serve him. This choice is effected by either knowing or not knowing Mephistopheles' true name (Tra'axfyl the Ambitious), which can be learned by having the Knower of Names (under the command of using her own True Name) tell you.

Enivid Divine is a paladin in Kingmaker who, along with Sir Becket, opposes the hero in the election to become lord of Keep Cyan. She is considered by most of the keep to be righteous and strong in character, but unqualified to be a ruler due to her lack of experience. Her name is a palindrome.
Calibast is an azer companion of the hero in Kingmaker. Though good and friendly in nature, he is given to alcoholism and lustful desires. If chosen as a companion, he will tell the player of his childhood and the circumstances that led to him coming to the Prime Material plane. If the player does not give Calibast the position of the Hand he will tell the player that he is upset they didn't consider him. However, if the player did chose Calibast as their Hand, and built up a friendship with him over the course of the story, he will present the player with a powerful ring in the Masked Man's dungeon. Calibast is a romance option for female PC's. The player needs to trigger his four conversations while attmepting to win support for their bid of Lordship over the Keep, encouraging his attentions in the third talk. This has little to no bearing on the rest of the plot.
Jaboli is a Rakshasa wizard companion of the player in Kingmaker, who can be chosen as a henchman. She tells the player the story of her exile as the game progresses, and if treated well, will offer the player an amulet when in The Masked Man's Stronghold.
Kaidala is a nymph henchman available in the Kingmaker Premium Module. Her face being scarred from a fire set to her forest by paranoid villagers, she has a low opinion of herself in the beginning and begs to be left to die when the player talks to her soul. She is kind-hearted, however, and generally remains loyal to you throughout the entire module (if treated well). Even though Kaidala says at the start that she doesn't harbor any romantic feelings towards the player, it is still possible for a male or female player character to pursue a romance with her, culminating in the replanting of her grove.
Trip is a Wererat rogue companion available in Kingmaker. As the game progresses he tells the player how he became a wererat and finds extra treasure for the player. While in the stronghold of the Masked Man, the player must persuade Trip to not listen to the voices telling him to betray the player.
The main antagonist in Kingmaker, the Masked Man is directly vying against the player for control of the Keep of Cyan. The player is forced to fight through his forces and weaken his position before finally fighting him in his stronghold. In the final dialogue, the Masked Man's true identity is revealed, as are his reasons for competing with the player: he is an Illithid who, along with the player character, is an offspring of a demoness who wants her children to achieve a high position in life, but to fight for it, so the strongest could prevail.
The Crimson Prophet is the main antagonist in ShadowGuard. He is a very powerful sorcerer who seeks to lead the northern lands of Abaran against the Sarakhan Empire. Along with him, there are three other members of Shadowguard in the city.
Okaris is the player's father in the ShadowGuard and important political figure in Ghaarak. When you first begin the game he is missing from your graduation ceremony and you don't meet him until later in the game. Near the end of the game Okaris dies in an explosion caused by the Crimson Prophet.

In the beginning of the game, the player receives a book that, upon reading, shows a series of cutscenes that shows how the Empire was born. In them, Rakha is revealed to be a celestial-looking warrior in full armor, wearing a big staff.
The Night Hag is a witch and a main helper in the Witches Wake campaign. She seems to know you and is willing to aid you. She grants the player passage to the Plane of Sorrow, a place between the world of living and the world of the dead. Nothing else is known about her.
Caldrian is the only other member of player's squad who survives the massacre (actually, another one also survived, but is turned into rat-like creature). Caldrian is hiding in the mine of Brogan's Arm. The dwarfs are looking for him as he stole their artifact, Cavanaugh stone, for unknown reason. He reveals to player what actually happened to the squad: they were the witch hunters who pursued a witch and ultimately killed her (or they believe so). However, the witch succeeded in cursing the witch hunters, so they ended up massacred on the field where game begins.
Nothing is known about The Witch that the Witch hunters were hunting for. She is believed to be dead, but before perishing, she avenged herself by cursing and killing nearly all of them. It is believed that her ghost appears before the player in the end of game.

He could be found in Neverwinter Nights: Darkness over Daggerford, being stuffed and shown in a collector's museum.
Nisar is a sailor and crewmate of the player character who journeys alongside him throughout the game.
Tasina Alcrest is the main antagonist. She is the priestess of Umberlee, the evil sea goddess. However, she is not that evil, in fact, she is actually misguided by her goddess. Could be saved by the player from her own goddess, or killed in the end of game (in this case she becomes a hag).
Umberlee is the goddess of seas and storms, she is behind the plot organized by Tasina Alcrest. In order to success, the player has to sabotage her plans and even defeat her physical aspects in battle: a giant Kraken and a tall, humanoid physical being representing her will.

Halaster is firstly encountered in Hordes of the Underdark. The mad mage himself, the ruler of Undermountain. It is revealed during the confrontation with him that he is in fact a clone of original Halaster (created during the Hordes of the Underdark expansion pack) who overpowered the mad mage and took his place as Undermountain's master. The clone's scheme is put to an end when the boy, Timmy, reveals himself to be the real Halaster and vanquishes his copy.

When the hero's home and family were murdered, he journeyed to sir Gilbert Hawklin in order to become a knight and seek revenge. Under Gilbert Hawklin, the hero become a knight and ultimately stopped a plot to acquire the Wyvern Crown, a great artifact. Gilbert Hawklin has lost one of his arms and both of his sons during the recent war against Devil Dragon, who was slain with the help of player's father. He is in a big financial trouble and is trying to make things right with the help of merchants Imelda and Valetto.

Jonas is the brother of the main character. Along with the hero and Godfroy Cormas, he lost his relatives and his wife, Lena, during the siege of their farm. He, alongside the hero, becomes the squire of Sir Hawklin. During the battle with raiders, which took place in a burrow, Witch Lord appears, disguised as a spirit of an artifact ring. Witch Lord succeeds in making Jonas use the ring, and takes control of his mind. Jonas kills Godfroy Cormas, but runs away as he is not willing to harm his brother. Later, Jonas, under the guise of Black Knight, tries to kill his brother with a poison during the joust tournament. In the end of game, Jonas assists the Witch Lord in the great battle, but ultimately he is of no use to the lich, and is left for player to decide his fate. His mind-altering ring could be destroyed and he forgiven, or he could be killed.
Imelda is merchant and partner of Sir Gilbert Hawklin. She hates Valetto and believes he is behind the piracy in the Wyvernwater lake. She later revealed to have been supporting the raids on the farms (Valetto's property) as a twisted vengeance on Valetto.
Valetto is the owner of land where the farms are located. He helps the player many times during the game. He is a partner of Sir Gilbert Hawklin. It is revealed that he is a servant of the mist dragon, Wyvernvapor, and is secretly a leader of pirates plaguing Wyvernwater lake. He claims that the piracy is the only way he could assist his master.
Wyvernvapor the Mist Dragon is the one who player believes to be behind the raids. However, it is not so, and Wyvernvapor actually opposes the true enemy: Szass Morg. Both the dragon and the lich are looking for the Wyvern Crown, a powerful artifact. Player, tricked by Witch Lord, destroys Wyvervapor's lair, thus rendering the dragon powers useless against the lich.
Szass Morg, the Witch Lord is the main antagonist of the game, an ancient, immortal lich. He is behind raids on farmlands and thus the one responsible for the hero's family murder. His true goal is to acquire the Wyvern Crown, legendary artifact, before the cormyrians or Wyvernvapor do so. Szass Morg appears for the first time during the battle for a burrow, where he, using a cursed ring, corrupts Jonas. Later, with his skeletal face hidden beneath a mask, he disguises himself as servant of Wyvernvapor, making the hero to assault his rival's castle. In the end of the game, player fights him, Jonas, and his army for the burrow of the Wyvern Crown. When player reaches the Crown, he has one final battle against the lich.
Astriel, also known under the pseudonym Amara Leontyne, is an agent of Waterdeep that come to Daggerford in order to discover the truth about Duke Pwyll Greatshout's death, merchant Matagar Bugo's rise to power and the reasons why the caravan raiders are operating so heavily. The player helps her to uncover the mystery and save Daggerford.
Talarenne is the main character's friend and partner. Being a female warrior with appearance slightly reminiscent of Astriel, she was kidnapped in the beginning of the game by unknown force behind Daggerford's problems. Though, in order to save his friend, the main character has to help Astriel, the real target of kidnapping, to solve the mystery of what is going on in Daggerford. Talerenne is revealed to be trapped in a magic orb, and the only way to break the spell is to crush the demon whose presence allows it to work: Gorgomorz.
Purfbin is a fat, optimistic halfling thief who could join the hero's party.
Raegen is a strict, strong female fighter who could join the hero's party.
Captain Frederick is the leader of Daggerford's militia. He is somewhat confused by the current city's ruler, Matagar Bugo's decision to aid his forces with Griffon mercenaries. In the end of the game, he is very willing to help player and Astriel to save Daggerford for the dark conspiracy.
Teygan is a Harper who helps the player to uncover the plot of Zhentarim who have secretly taken over Daggerford and are going to establish their rule there. In the end of his partnership with the main character, it is revealed that he is, in fact, one of the Zhentarim's most notorious leaders, Sememmon. The reason why he helps the player is that the force behind Daggerford's problem is a separate Zhentarim faction.
Duke Pwyll Greatshout dies in a hunting accident before the game's events. His death leads to Matagar Bugo's rise to power. It is believed that his death was in fact a murder. It is revealed in the end of game that he is alive, being kept prisoner in Zhentarim's lair in Illefarn ruins. When hero defeats the Zhentarim and their forces which rules the Daggerford now, he returns as the rightful ruler of the city.
Lady Bronwyn Greatshout is the sister of Duke Pwyll Greatshout, ruler of Daggerford. When her brother died in hunting accident, she mysteriously disappears, with many believing she is kidnapped by a group of extortionists. However, it is revealed that she is held with her still alive brother Pwyll by Zhentarim, who have secretly take over the city.
Captain Dratharion is the leader of Griffon mercenaries stationed in the city to help defeat the outbreak of raiding groups on the roads. He and his forces were chosen by Baron Matagar Bugo himself. It is revealed that the Griffon mercenaries are, in fact, just disguised Zhentarim forces who also behind the caravan attacks. The plan was to create the menace for the city (raiders, orcs, and later demon Gorgomorz), defeat it, and win the city's trust and finally take over it. The player fights him in Zhentarim's main lair in dwarven ruins of Illefarn.
Baron Matagar Bugo is the current ruler of Daggerford, after the death of Duke Pwyll Greatshout. He spread news of his political strategy to make Daggerford new trading center, rivaling even Waterdeep, claiming that the "outlook is golden". It was his decision to aid the city's militia by the mercenary company, Griffons. It is revealed much later that he is Zhentarim puppet ruler, and, along with Griffon captain Dratharion and Zhentarim high command, is behind the city's problems. When the hero crushes the Zhentarim forces and saves Duke Pwyll Greatshout and his sister, Matagar Bugo's plot is revealed to public. He himself mysteriously disappears, only to appear when the devil Gorgomorz starts to siege the city, thinking it is his last chance to somehow improve the situation. Gorgomorz, however, is disgusted how Matagar Bugo is trying to command him, and kills the baron with magical fire attack.
Gorgomorz is great devil that is the arch-nemesis of Daggerford and Greatshout family, by whom he was banished years ago. Now he is the central element of Zhentarim's plot to take over the city: unleash him and his orc army, then defeat the devil, and claim the city's trust. However, as player defeats Zhentarim's leaders and forces, there is no extra help for town to defeat Gorgomorz. Killing him is the final task for the player and several members of Daggerford militia in order to save the city. His death also breaks the spell that holds Talarenne in her sphere prison.
Aldanon is a wealthy, yet absent-minded, sage living in the Blacklake district of Neverwinter. Aldanon had come into the possession of one of the silver shards from the Sword of Gith. When the PC arrived in Neverwinter with a shard, the player was eventually able to visit Aldanon in his mansion. The sage was interested in the PC's shard and Duncan's shard, allowing him to compare them to the one he had. After a quick test, he finally determined they were pieces of a Githyanki silver sword.
Ammon Jerro (also known as a Warlock) was once a court wizard with a title of a jester, but when he found out about the Illefarn guardian, what it had become, and what it was going to do to all of Abeir-Toril, he changed. He cut all ties with his family and friends and immersed himself in years of study and training in order to better face the Illefarn construct gone awry. In completely losing himself to zealous training and searching for powerful allies, items, and henchmen, mainly of the demonic sort, he loses bits and pieces of his humanity and soul, until he becomes a single-minded weapon favouring isolation, ruthlesness and efficiency. Ammon Jerro will do what he thinks needs be done in the most expedient way possible, without regard to loss of life or other (in his mind) miscelania. He is there to destroy the King of Shadows, everything else fades. He is present in the NWN2 campaign from the start, being the human character that faces the shadowy opponent in the intro of the game. He has a prominent glowing tattoo on his forehead, which is often remarked upon by Bishop who calls him 'tattoo-face'. He was also the only one who faced the Illefarn guardian alone, and survived.
He is the grandfather of Shandra Jerro, whom he slays not knowing who she was in an act of blind anger, thus ending his bloodline. This 'breakes' him, as Zhaeve points out, and Ammon, for the first time in who knows how long sees himself for what he has become, and as a result mellows a bit, surrendering his allegiance to the PC, but he doesn't give up, not until he faces the King of Shadows one last time. A strong and a tragic figure.
Ammon Jerro is also present in the Mask of the Betrayer campaign, where the PC can choose to buy his displaced soul from a pair of merchant devils, acquiring his skills once more and delaying Ammon's inevitable eternal suffering, once he is finally dead, at the hands of all the demon and devil lords he once imprisoned under his service. If revived, he will aid the PC in Kelemvor's city, paying off his debt.
Bevil Starling is one of the PC's friends in West Harbor and is available as a henchman in the first Act during the excursion into the Swamps. He later joins the PC at Crossroad Keep as a sergeant.
Bishop is a chaotic evil ranger that serves no allegiance for too long. Based at the 'Sunken flagon' tavern, where he was waiting, for who knows how long, for the owner Duncan to call upon a debt. When that time finally comes, Bishop joins forces with the PC's party and sets off to track the gythyanki who kidnapped Shandra Jerro after assaulting the tavern. Bishop is merciless, backstabbing, homicidal and mistrustful. All of these characteristics stem from his troubled childhood in Luskan, where he burned an entire village down in an act of defiance and impulse. Betrays the PC in the NWN2 campaign and joins Black Garius. In the final confrontation you can persuade him to betray Garius, or you can kill him. If you are of an evil disposition, you can join with him along side the King of Shadows and kill off all of the good-aligned party members. Although irreparably destructive, Bishop has a certain corsair mercenary likeness about him. He was initially planned as a romance option for female PCs but eventually this was deleted.
In Mask of the Betrayer, Bishop's lack of a deity serves as a plot point. You encounter Bishop in a dream, where you see him half-consumed by the wall of the faithless. He says that he takes nothing back and that he is not remorseful; he is in fact happy because he will finally know total erasure.
Casavir is a human Paladin who acts as one of the possible love interests in the game. He is initially encountered as a mysterious stranger who is using guerilla tactics to help defend a location known as Old Owl Well. Much of his backstory, and indeed character development, was deleted, though the dialogue files can still be found using the toolset.
While he was not mentioned in Mask of the Betrayer, Storm of Zehir reveals that he survived the destruction of the Shadow King's lair, albeit badly wounded. It is implied that he has been imprisoned by Luskans.
Construct is a golem which player could use. If the PC decided to go back and fetch this heap of scrap metal and have Grobnar fix it up, the construct becomes a strong fighter henchman in the last two Acts of the game.
Elanee is an elven druid who joins the PC's party upon leaving Fort Locke. She is also the only available romance option for male PCs.
Whether or not she survives the destruction of the King of Shadow's lair is dependent on the player's choices regarding her. If the player was male and had successfully romanced her, then Ammon will inform the player of how she sacrificed her life to save the player from falling debris.
Grobnar Gnomehands is a gnomish bard who is one of the companions in the campaign. You encounter him early on in the game where the player runs into him at a camp. He is portrayed as possibly insane, and generally acts as comic relief for the story. He is obsessed with locating some mythical beings named the 'Wendersnaven' who are entirely undetectable. Late in the game he gets an item called the 'Wenderkazoo', which is apparently an equally invisible kazoo. This instrument is quite powerful game wise, but it is commented that while he hears it as a beautiful melody to everyone else it just looks and sounds like him humming under his breath. He is also the one who rebuilds the Construct if enough parts are found.
He is confirmed to have died in the destruction of the King of Shadow's lair in Mask of the Betrayer, having sacrificed himself to save the Construct.
Khelgar Ironfist is a dwarven fighter and the first major companion the player encounters. He is a fighting fanatic, and as such is heading to Neverwinter to learn to become a Monk after being impressed by two monks who beat him senseless despite their appearing weak. He has to pass a series of tests to become eligible to be a monk after which he can be releveled from level 1 up as a monk. He also has a storyline where he must reconcile with his clan after they resent him for his putting his love of fighting before the clan. After the events of the game, he is believed to be dead, however, it is not true.
In the best ending of Mask of the Betrayer, if the player was in a romance with either Safiya or Gann, then Khelgar, along with Neeshka, attend their wedding.
He appears again in Storm of Zehir expansion, as a temporary ruler of Crossroad Keep and a member of Neverwinter Nine. He is waiting for the Knight-Captain (the Player Character) to return.
Neeshka is a tiefling rogue who is one of the companions available in the game. She is the second one to be encountered where she has to be rescued from a group of soldiers who have attacked her due to her tiefling heritage. When in Neverwinter she competes against a former associate who hates her for stealing his money. She is also hinted to be a descendant of one of the fiends in Ammon Jerro's abode.
She is confirmed to have survived the destruction of the King of Shadow's lair in Mask of the Betrayer. If the player is in a romance, then she will attend their wedding alongside Khelgar in the best ending.
Qara is daughter of the headmaster of Neverwinter Magic Academy, Qara is a brash, arrogant young girl who views her abilities at much higher level than her peers. While extremely powerful, she sometimes has trouble controlling the amount of power she has which usually ends up causing trouble for her. She always says what's on her mind, and has no problem telling someone off if they annoy her. She feels that experience is the only real teacher for magic, and studying and scribing is a waste of time. She has a weasel familiar named Tamin. Because of her views on wizards, Qara and Sand never get along well.
She is confirmed to have been killed in the destruction of the King of Shadow's lair, either having been killed by the party after siding with Garius, or, as Ammon states, by having her head split open by falling debris.
Sand is a wise, but cynical eladrin moon elf wizard who owns a magic shop down by the docks in Neverwinter. He is a knowledge-seeker and is very interested in finding ancient relics and artifacts he can study and learn more from. He is a powerful and well-trained wizard, which causes him to often butt heads with Qara, who insults all wizards who have to study and read books in order to learn magic. He has a pet familiar cat named Jaral. It is revealed at the Ember trial by the Luskan ambassador Torio Claven that Sand was once part of the Hosttower of the Arcane, and if the PC has enough influence with him he shares a bit of his history. Sand had left the Hosttower after he could no longer stomach the things they made him do, and was marked for death. Seeking refuge in Neverwinter, Sand was tasked with being an informant for Lord Nasher, a position he does not relish.
In Mask of the Betrayer, he is confirmed to have survived the destruction of the King of Shadow's lair by transforming into an Iron Golem.
Shandra Jerro is the granddaughter of Ammon Jerro who runs a farm north of Highcliff. She eventually joins the PC as a henchman and is unwittingly killed by Ammon Jerro, who was not aware of the blood bonds between them.
Zhjaeve is a Githzerai cleric who joins the PC late in the game to help him learn about the secrets behind the shard and forge the Sword of Gith. She is also one of the characters able to use the True Name Scroll.
Whether or not she survived the destruction of the King of Shadows' lair is unknown.
Zeeaire is the Githyanki Seeker of the Sword, who is willing to collect all the parts of the Gith Sword scattered after the battle with the King of Shadows. She serves as the antagonist of the Chapter One of the game. With her defeated, Giths stop hunting for the main character.
Torio Claven is the Luskan ambassador to Neverwinter. Highly intelligent, manipulative and cunning, she rose to power from a harsh existence on the streets of Luskan. She met Black Garius whilst working as an entertainer in the taverns, and he quickly tapped into her considerable talents to spy on the mages of the Hosttower. Along with Garius' muscle henchman Lorne Starling who hails from the PC's home in the Mere, Torio frames the PC for the murder of an entire village. After being defeated in the resulting trial by the PC with help from Sand, Torio and her retinue are banished from Neverwinter. She is eventually abandoned by Black Garius and arrested by Neverwinter and sentenced to death. Sir Nevalle suggests that the PC be allowed to determine Torio's fate. She assists the PC with recruiting members for the Keep if allowed to live. As part of one of the "good" epilogues it is revealed that Torio was returned to Luskan and reinstated as ambassador where she worked covertly for Neverwinter and was responsible for arresting several Luskan spies. Torio's voice talent is Maggie Lacey.
Lorne Starling is Black Garius's enforcer who helps Torio Claven in their goal to bring down the player character and his party. Lorne is brother of Bevil Starling and is from the same village the hero come from. He is killed either by the player, or by Black Garius himself, because of his failure.
Nasher Alagondar is the Lord of Neverwinter. He helps the player character and could make him one of the Neverwinter Nine, the elite nine agents of the city. He a plays crucial part in the war against the King of Shadows. He was first met in the original Neverwinter Nights, where he leads the city against the Luskan invasion and the Ancients' plot.
Black Garius is a powerful Luskan mage and the leader of the cult of King of Shadows. He masterminds many of the actions against the player character. When finally confronted, he is seemingly killed by his own ritual. In reality, he become a leader of Shadow Reavers, a group of lich-like undead servants of King of Shadows. He is battled before the final battle of the game, where he could inspire some of the party members to join the King of Shadows.
The King of Shadows (known also as The Guardian), is the main antagonist of the game. He is a former Guardian, a powerful creation of the ancient fallen empire of Illefarn, the result of turning a man into a creature of unlimited magic power. The Guardian was to be powered by the Magic itself, but with the fall of Illefarn, he "switched" to another power source: the Plane of Shadow. Now, he is a monster that is about to come to the Sword Coast again, leading an army of followers, undead and creatures of the Plane of Shadow. The only way to destroy him is to use the Gith Sword against him, so his connection with the Plane of Shadow can be sundered. He is defeated in his underground lair beneath the Mere of the Dead Men.
Safiya is a Red Wizard of Thay. She is the PC's first companion after she finds the PC in a barrow in Rashemen. Her bald head is decorated with a tattoo of a spirit eater marking her as a Red wizard. Safiya specializes in transmutation and has a familiar named Kaji that she created herself. A practical, pragmatic character, honest and knowledgeable. In the course of the campaign, it is revealed that she is but a part of a dissected soul which belonged to Akachi's lover. Akachi had torn the soul from the Wall of the Faithless and was punished for it by Myrkul, who made him into a spirit-eater. The Founder (Akachi's true love) reveals that herself, Lienna, Nefris, and Safiya are actually the one soul. Safiya can be romanced by the PC.
Gannayev of Dreams (or Gann) is an optional follower for the player character. A dreamwalking Hagspawn Spirit Shaman, he can be liberated from the Mulsantir Prison and is a useful divine spellcaster. Gann often emphasises his physical appeal, which makes him seem self-centered and superficial. He has a quick wit and will respond to any insult with a smile, especially if it serves to further infuriate the person to whom he's talking to. He dislikes other hagspawn, believing himself to be better than them, and has a sidequest in the Sunken City. If he is in the PC's party when they find themselves in the Skein, the PC can learn the truth about his parentage - that his mother Gulk'aush was a hag who, breaking the laws of the sisterhood, loved Gann's father and refused to eat him after copulating with him. When Gann was born, her crime was discovered and she was forced to abandon Gann to the wilds and eat his father. The PC can encourage Gann to either reconcile or kill his mother, which has little bearing on the game or his personality. His dreamwalking abilities allow him to haunt the dreams and thoughts of others, particularly the dreams of attractive farmer's daughters. This ability allows him to accompany the PC in any dreams they may enter throughout the campaign, such as at the Wells of Lurue or near the Mosstone. His rougish personality, quick tongue and a womanising result in a bad reputation in many areas. A high influence with Gann results in increased Charisma and an improved ability to devour spirits. Female PC's can romance Gann, provided they have a high enough influence (75) either at the confrontation with Gulk'aush or at the door to the Fugue Plane in Act III. Gann's voice talent is Crispin Freeman.

During the game, Akachi inhabits the PC's body, and the main goal is to save the character's own soul from him. At the end of game, when player takes back his own soul from the Wall of Faithless, Akachi takes the form of a Faceless Man and fights the PC in one final battle for his body. Charissa Maernos is an NPC who could join the player. She is a cleric of Tyr, and a very strict woman. Charissa is somewhat unbearable because of her constant "remarks" and "observations" she made on other characters, and that's why it is hard to get along with her. She believes that the Churches of both Tyr and Lathander are losing time with their praying and money spending, and instead they should fight the evil that is all around them. It is revealed that it is anger that drives her, and the only way to rid her of it is to find a man responsible for the misery of her family. After the Banshee is killed, her spirit is finally free, and the curse of the Domino Mask is no more.
Orbakh, also known as the Faceless, The Third Faceless, or Night King is the leader of the Night Masks crime organization and the main antagonist of the game. Orbakh is, in fact, one of three clones of Lord Manshoon, the infamous leader of Zhentarim, who has become a vampire and the third person to lead the Night Masks. Orbakh's ambition is to create a vampire nation with humans as no more but a source of food. In order to do so, he created the Human Cattle Factory, a place where artificial humans are bred for the blood extraction. He intended to use it in order to feed his growing army of vampires. However, a vampire named Tasheni decided to overthrow him and become a new Faceless, creating the Ebon Claws guild. Orbakh knew that someone else is behind the Ebon Claws, and so he waited to investigate.
When the player reaches him, he could choose to join him (killing Tasheni and all the party members in the process), or to fight him. This culminates with him being killed and staked in his sarcophagus. However, after Zymena's plot is uncovered, he reveals himself to be alive, faking his death. In the end, he congratulates the player on his victory, but is ready to punish him, as the entire Human Cattle Facility is destroyed forever. However, the sun arises, forcing the vampire to retreat. He is right, actually, as she manipulates Tasheni, Altama and the Ebon Claws in order to get closer to the Human Cattle Factory and Elandra. She intended to steal the secret of Orbakh for herself.
Before the final battle with the player, she assumes her true form: a fat, ugly, witch-like demon from the Abyss. With her defeated and Elandra's spirit free, the Human Cattle Factory is finally destroyed, and not she, nor Orbakh will be able to use it again.
