Founder

Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr Lim Kok Wing is the founder and president of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.[1]

He established Wings Creative Consultants in 1975.[2] Within 5 years the company grew from 4 employees to 30 and the turnover was RM4 million. In 1988 the company merged with BBDO and the Wings/BBDO alliance was formed. After winning awards with his previous company he continued to do so with his new partners. Billings rose to RM40 million by 1992, but he ended the partnership to start Limkokwing Integrated. He diversified into a range of communication services and at this time he set up what is known today as the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.

History

Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology (as it was then known) was established in 1991 by founder and namesake Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr Lim Kok Wing.[3] Its first campus consisted of a few bungalows in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.

The institute formed relationships with universities and colleges in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. At the same time, the institute forged links with industry to provide direction and support to enable the university to create an environment that was conducive to education.

Collaborating with industry gave many opportunities for students to engage in real work experience. In 2002 the institute became the first private college to be recognized as a University College.[3]

In 2006 Limkokwing set up a campus in Botswana's capital city of Gaborone which was officially opened in May 2007 by former president of Botswana, the Hon. Festus Mogae.

The university's London campus was opened in Piccadilly in October 2007. The campus was officially opened by the Malaysian former prime minister, YABhg Tun Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi. Limkokwing established its second campus in Africa in Maseru, Lesotho.

In Asia the university is set up in Indonesia, Cambodia and China.
