The Malawi Gar (Lichnochromis acuticeps) is a ray-finned fish species in the monotypic genus Lichnochromis. Though it reminds of a gar in habitus, it is actually in the teleost family Cichlidae and thus as distantly related to gars as living Neopterygii can possibly be.
It is found in Malawi, Mozambique, and Tanzania. Its natural habitat is freshwater lakes.
