Liberty Bank is headquartered in the heart of downtown Middletown, Connecticut, but is located throughout Middlesex County and at shoreline locations. Liberty Bank is the oldest mutual bank in the state of Connecticut.

History

Established in 1825 as Middletown Savings Bank[1], Liberty Bank is Connecticut’s oldest mutual bank and is headquartered in Middletown, CT with 43 banking offices throughout the central, eastern, and shoreline areas of the state[2]. As a full-service financial institution, Liberty Bank offers consumer and commercial banking, home mortgages, insurance, and investment services. In 2001, Liberty Bank merged with Hometown Bank, and added four new locations. In 2003, Liberty broke ground on its first-ever affordable housing complex: Uncas Condominiums, in Norwich, and opened another office, bringing the network of branches to 34. In 2005, the bank introduced the state’s first checking account to offer rebates of other banks' ATM surcharges.

The Liberty Bank Foundation celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2007, and having granted $4.6 million during this time. Liberty Bank added a branch in Wethersfield, CT in 2008, and introduced Quarter Back Checking…a product that pays 25 cents back on every non-PIN-based debit card transaction of $25 or more. In June 2009, Liberty Bank Niantic Express opened an office. The newest branch is a relocated branch in Cromwell from Willowbrook Road to Connecticut Route 372, Berlin Rd just around the corner from the current location. The branch opened in January 2010.
