Leonard Beecher
The Most Rev Leonard James Beecher CMG, ARCS, MA, DD was an Anglican archbishop[1] in the third quarter of the 20th century.[2]
He was born on 21 May 1906,[3] educated at St Olave's Grammar School and Imperial College London and ordained in 1929.[4] He was a CMS Missionary in the Diocese of Mombasa from 1930, working in the Highlands.[5] He rose in time to be Archdeacon, Canon and Assistant Bishop[6] of the Diocese before elevation to the Episcopate as Bishop of Mombasa,[7] then Archbishop of East Africa.[8] A prominent member of the Royal African Society,[9] he retired in 1970 and died on 16 December 1987. He is buried in the cemetery at All Saints, Limuru.[10]
