Lehragaga is a town and a municipal council in Sangrur district in the Indian state of Punjab.It is near the border of punjab and Haryana. Haryana is about 10 km from Lehragaga. It has a railway station. Nowadays Lehrgaga is known as an education point in district Sangrur. Many educational colleges are there. Many types of educational courses can be done from here like engineering, b.ed, nursing, art and craft, etc. Baba Hira Singh Institute of Engineering and Technology (5th government college in Punjab under Punjab Technical University) is in Legragaga. This is the point of concentration for the whole town. However, Lehragaga comes in the category of backward area of Punjab but in these days, it is developing with higher rate. The old trend of Lehragaga is changing into modern and fashionable world. The students coming from various cities of the country have played a great role in development of Lehragaga.
also, from political point of view, Lehragaga is a very important seat. Brish bhan, 3rd CM of pepsu (Patiala and East Punjab States Union) was from this area. Also Lehragaga is hometown of Rajinder Kaur Bhattal (former CM of Punjab). Nowadays she is leader of opposition (congress) in Punjab. Sant Harcharan Singh Longowal (well known for the agreement that he made with Rajiv Gandhi in 1984) started his political career from Lehragaga by defeating Brish Bhan in elections. To distinguish it from the other Lehras in Punjab , its name had been modified with the addition of Gaga ( an adjoining village)...
As of 2001[update] India census,[1] Lehragaga had a population of 19,310. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Lehragaga has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 70%, and female literacy is 57%. In Lehragaga, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
