Legoland Billund, the original Legoland park, opened in 1968 in Billund, Denmark. The Park is located next to the original Lego factory and Denmark's second busiest airport Billund Airport. 1.6 million guests visited the park in 2007 and over the years more than 40 million guests have been through the park. This makes it the largest tourist attraction in Denmark outside of Copenhagen. The Legoland parks that have since been built are modelled upon Legoland Billund, most noticeably the Miniland area, which serves as the heart of the park.

Duplo land contains rides and attractions for young children, with the Lego Duplo brand theme. The Duplo Playhouse is a play area for children ages 2–6, which is themed like a city that children can play in. They can build using Lego, or play on the fake planes and fake cars. There are also slides, stairs, interactive elements and a role-play area. There is also a Duplo train, which is a kiddie train ride which looks like a train made of Duplo Bricks. You can ride the track, which is a straight piece with 9 turns, making a ride of 2 minutes. Duplo Planes, a plane ride similar to Disney's Dumbo ride, is themed to planes made of Duplo Bricks that you can ride in. The Planes are attached to arms that connect into the hydraulic lift mechanism, so you can control the planes by using a joystick to go up and down. Duplo driving school is a car ride for children ages 2–6, who are not yet ready for the Traffic school ride. It is a safe driving environment for younger kids, supervised by Legoland Employees.
The Imagination zone contains the Lego Studio, a purpose built 600 seat 4-D Theater, complete with special effects and a giant screen. There are 4 movies that play daily, these are Lego Racers, Spell breakers, Bob the builder and clutch powers. Lego Atlantis by Sea Life was added in 2007. The attraction starts off with an animated movie, featuring Lego figures and a submarine, traveling down to the submerged city of Atlantis. Following the movie, there is an aquarium and other hands on activities with more than 800 sea creatures. Numerous Lego figures and models are in and around the aquarium.
LEGOREDO is a Western-themed land which contains the rides Lego Canoe, LEGOLDMINE, Westernride, Timber Ride, LEGOLDMINE Train. There is also an Indian camp led by the popular Chief Long Ears (referring to the long rabbit ears on his headgear). LEGOREDO also has its own band called "The Rattlesnakes" and they play country music all day long.
Adventure land contains X-Treme racers, a Mack rides wild mouse coaster with a twist: the ride starts out when a vehicle turns out of station and the vehicle goes up an 80-foot (24 m) lift hill then makes a wide turn at the top the coaster; after that the vehicles goes down an 80-foot (24 m) near vertical plunge and then goes into tracks with a series of turns and drops and then hit the brake run to return back into the station after your photo is taken on the ride. Adventure zone a dueling water carousel in a lagoon with splash effects and jet ski cars with that spin circles at fast speeds. In the 2010 season The Templet a dark ride that is indoors where riders board Explorer jeeps with capacity of three passengers in 1 row on a continuously moving track with laser guns and a scoreboard that will help you shoot the targets inside the ride and to see your score throughout the ride your vehicle enters the ride scenes through an automatic door and then your vehicles moves throughout all 10 show scenes inside the ride and then your vehicle exits the scenes through an automatic exit doorway and to the unload station then you exit vehicles into the gift shop to shop and view your on-ride photo. The Temple games a midway games area themed to the pharaohs with ring-toss, water shooting game, balloon popping game and a mummy games. Two gift shops Temple gifts and adventure shop. Lego City contains Bioncioule builders an Indoor robo-coaster in the dark where you can build you own roller coaster and thrill level for it all 10 robomatic arms hold 2 riders each and the attraction is themed to Bionicle Also in Lego city is the Flunck Fire bardage a ride where you take vehicles to a building that needs to be put out with water and fast team will win the challenge. Lego City has 2 restaurants with American food and The Lego clubhouse shop for your shopping pleasure.
Knight's Kingdom contains The Dragon coaster a coaster that starts inside in the castle building with slow moving dark ride scenes with Lego figures themed medieval times this includes a dragon figure to and then your Dragon train with lap bars goes up a lift hill and then drops down a drop into turns, helixes and drops after that you hit the brake run and return to the station your photo is taken on board the ride in the final drop area. Viking's river splash a river rapids ride themed to Vikings that was added in 2006 the ride begins with a circular moving load platform after you board your Viking themed raft it moves around turns, whirlpools and waterfalls and it spins around gets you wet with Lego Viking figures throughout the ride course after that part of the ride your raft goes on a Elevator lift system track that takes you to the top of the lift system and drops you down a 40-foot (12 m) drop while spinning down the drop into a lagoon with Lego sea monster figures after you splash down it your raft goes back to the station your photo on on board the ride into the drop portion. Contains the main shop called the Big shop that sells Lego sets, figures and Legoland merchandise for shopping needs and end of the day purchases in one big location.
This new area of the park will bring the North Pole and South Pole together, with Polar X-plorer a new coaster and Penguin Bay, that will feature live penguins and a new restaurant called Polar Pizza and Pasta.[1]
On April 29, 2007, a 21-year old female employee was killed by a roller coaster when she climbed over a security fence to retrieve a guest's wallet.[2]
