Law360 is an American online media company based in New York City that publishes news and analysis on business law for its online subscribers. Current subscribers include each of the top 100 law firms in the U.S., corporate legal departments and major federal and state agencies.[1] All told, the company provides litigation news and analysis to over 100,000 attorneys and 1,400 organizations.[1]
Law360 publishes an average of 100 articles per day across 25 legal practice areas such as intellectual property, white-collar crime, contract, class action and financial services.[2] Since its creation in 2004, Law360 has experienced a consistent double-digit growth.[3] The company had revenue of $10 million in 2010 and is expected to expand rapidly in 2011.[4]
In April 2011, the company launched Law360 Data, which provides real time updates of lawsuit activity for more than 5,000 publicly traded companies across 200 industries.[1] In August 2011, Law360 was named a finalist in the human resources and leadership category for The New York Enterprise Report Small Business Awards 2011.[5]
The company was founded by Marius Meland in 2004 as a daily online newsletter covering intellectual property law. Meland, a former business reporter for Dow Jones and Forbes, was initially surprised by the interest in the online media source, especially amongst attorneys.[6]In December 2004, Meland connected with Magnus Hoglund, a recent graduate of Columbia Business School, during a chance meeting at a local coffee shop.[6]
The two officially launched Law360 a short time later, initially running the operation out of Meland’s apartment in New York. As of March 2011, they had more than 80 employees.[6]
