There are currently 45 local police agencies in Westchester County, New York. As well as other county, state, and federal agencies responsible for protecting Westchester County, these agencies frequently work with one another and other agencies located in the surrounding counties and states as well as the NYPD. Current economic times has caused a few Westchester municipalities to consider merging. The Town of Ossining Police Department was merged into the Westchester County Department of Public Safety in 2011.

Westchester County Department of Public Safety was created in 1979. The current Commissioner/Sheriff is George Longworth[1].
The department provides primary police coverage for county parks, parkways and facilities. It is the third largest law enforcement agency in Westchester County after the Department of Corrections[2] and the City of Yonkers Police [3].
