Laurence "Woo" Allen

Biography

The majority of the information below is a combination of self-promotion, exaggeration, embellishment and lies.

Laurence “Woo” Allen (born February 15, 1968) is originally from the UK. He has found success in many genres of music, particularly Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, and Rock. He has his own production company “The Woo’s Productions Ltd.”. Woo was born in Luton, Bedfordshire, England. He has always been passionate about music even at a young age. His grandfather, Ernest Sidney Allen, graduated from London Institute of Music for piano in July 1933. Woo attended Lea Manor High School in Luton, England. In 1990, he moved to New Jersey, and he attended music production school at New Jersey Groove Academy in Edison, New Jersey.

Early in his career, he had a passion for the old school soul. Woo has worked on tracks with the great Loose Ends, and he has also done remixing for P.M. Dawn. In 1999, Woo produced a highly controversial song for Death Row Records on the Suge Knight Represents: Chronic 2000 album titled "Presenting Miilkbone" featuring Miilkbone who created an anti-Eminem track in response to Eminem's diss song titled "Just Don't Give a Fuck" from Eminem's debut studio album The Slim Shady LP when he signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment.

Woo’s first big commercial hit was in 2001 when he produced the remix for the first single for B2KUh Huh” Pt. 2 (featuring Nazkar) released on the Uh Huh Single CD and the B2K: The Remixes – Volume 1 album by Epic Records. Also in 2001, he started working with Hush Hush Music Group In 2003, Hush Hush Music Group officially started to manage Woo. In 2004, Woo produced two songs for Mr. Cheeks titled "All Nite Long" and "Mass Homicide" releaesd on the Ladies and Ghettomen album by Legal Drug Money/Contango. In addition, the television show Punk'd on MTV played eleven (11) tracks/instrumentals produced by Woo on several episodes during the season.

After success in the US, he came back to the UK in 2005. Soon after his return to his home country, Woo produced the hit single "Fast Cars" for the UK rap group Street Politiks, which was #1 on MTV Base and MTV Poland. Woo then got a publishing deal with N2 Records (part of the Sony BMG), and within a year, word spread to the likes of: double-platinum pop group Liberty X (V2 Records), Big Brovaz (Genetics Records UK), and Terri Walker (Mercury). Woo has also teamed up with Rob Fusari, who produced for Lady Gaga and Destiny's Child. Even being back in the UK, Woo still managed to have some tracks/instrumentals played in the USA on a couple of television shows on E!: Young Divas E! True Hollywood Story and The Girls Next Door.

In 2007, Woo produced an entire album for Zarina, a pop star from Kazakstan. One of the songs of the album titled "Hitch" had a music video shot and directed by Matt McDermitt and produced by world-renowned music video director Joseph Kahn, who has won several MTV Video Music Awards with nominations for Best Video of the Year for Brandy & Monica "The Boy Is Mine", and Britney Spears "Toxic" among many others.

In 2008, Woo signed another publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in Los Angeles, CA. In 2011, Woo produced a song titled "Sumo" featuring Twissman & Ginny B [Zy Records (UK)], which was #11 in the UK Commercial Pop Top 30 charts (governed by Music Week). Also in 2011, the British television show EastEnders played "Sumo" on 2 episodes. EastEnders currently ranks as one of the most watched shows in the UK and has millions of viewers daily.

In 2011, one of Woo's songwriters wrote a song titled "Superhero" using one of Woo's tracks and entered it into the UK Songwriting Contest 2011, which reached the position of a Semi-Finalist in the Pop category. This international competition had over 15,000 entries from all parts of the world, and it is the favorite songwriting event of many writers from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Asia, and Europe. The judges include many top industry names like top producer Stuart Epps (Elton John, Robbie Williams, Led Zeppelin, Bill Wyman, Paul Weller, Oasis), BRIT Award winning producer, songwriter and musical director Simon Ellis (S Club 7, Britney Spears) and the legendary producer, musical director and arranger Richard Niles (Paul McCartney, Kylie Minogue, Boyzone, Take That, Mariah Carey, Cliff Richard).
