The Latur Municipal Corporation (लातूर महानगरपालिका) (LMC) is established on October 30 2011. The Maharashtra Government dissolved the Council and approved forming a D grade Municipal Corporation. The LMC controls the whole administration of Latur. The executive power of the corporation is vested in the Commissioner, a IAS officer appointed by the Maharashtra state government. The Corporation consists of directly elected corporators headed by a Mayor. The Mayor has few executive powers. The total number of LMC members is 67. The LMC is in charge of the civic needs and infrastructure of the metropolis. Latur is divided into 22 municipal wards, each represented by 3 members for administrative purposes, except one by 4 members. The corporator of the administration are elected by the people through a popular vote and almost all the state political parties participate in the election. The city comes under the Latur Taluka of Latur District, Maharashtra. The collectors are in charge of property records and revenue collection for the Central government. They also conduct national election in the city. Like other metropolises in India, the Latur Police is headed by a Police Superitendant, an IPS officer. The Latur Police is the law enforcing agency in the city and comes under the state Home Ministry.

The last President of Latur was Laxman Kambale of the Congress party.

Latur has been known as Oxford of the Marathwada. Latur is one of the historical cities of Maharashtra with a glorious past, an innovative present and a promising future. The Latur Municipal Corporation administers the city. Latur is among the greenest urban areas in the Marathwada. Latur Municipal Council is well known as Latur NagarPalika and serving citizens since 1952. To Serve Citizens better Latur Municipal Corporation has taken initiative for e-Governance. Presently a few big corporations like Tata Consultancy Services are lending help for developing the E-governance system, as a part of their social service initiative. A public-private partnership is perceived to bring tremendous changes in the future.

Administration

The corporation is headed by a Commissioner, an IAS officer. He wields the executive power of the house. A quinquennial election is held to elect corporators to power. They are responsible for overseeing that their constituencies have the basic civic infrastructure in place, and that there is no lacuna on the part of the authorities. The Mayor (a largely ceremonial post with limited duties) heads the party with the largest vote.

Legislative

The corporation's legislature, also known as the Corporation Council, is composed of (as of 2009) 67 members.

Jurisdiction

The LMC is responsible for most of Latur's territory. The city is subdivided into six wards, from A to F. Each ward has own ward office which oversees its territory. The Municipal Corporation Building of the civic administration is opposite the Town Hall.
