Latamber is a town and Union council of Karak District in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.[1] It is an important town of Karak tehsil and is 29 kilometres east of Bannu at 33°6'33N 70°52'3E.

Location

Latamber is situated in the foothills of Spenghar. To its North is the Mountain range of Spenghar, towards West is the F.R. Bannu, the Thall desert in the south and to the east is District H.Q. Karak. Latamber is approximately 170 kilometers south of the provincial capital, Peshawar.

Demographics

The population of Latamber town is about 60 thousand and the population of Latamber union council (which includes many small villages along with main Latamber town) is about1 lac and 20thousand. Other villages in latamber union council include Warana, Mandawa, Kamali Banda, Tor Adam Banda, Adam Banda, Wali Khan Banda and Soor Dag.

History

Latamber is a very old village. In the past, Latamber has been known by various names including Latapur, Latamar,Sweetember etc. In Ancient Time there was a Prophet of Janism whose name was Swetember who was residuing in Bannu but comes for Prayer here to Latamber. So Latamber is the name after him.

Tribes

Khattak is in majority and are living in latamber from last three hundred years but there is another minor tribes including Qazi,Paracha,Batiani and quarshi.

Notable buildings

On the west by newly constructed dam Changhos is a famous place of Latamber - there is a tomb of mujahideen Faqir Epi Wazir who with the people of Latamber played a very important role in the freedom struggle of Pakistan.

Education

Government High School latamber working since 1940. Government Middle School Latamber is a historical institute in the region. There are numerous public and private schools and colleges but no college for the females.

Historical places

Shahedan Baba is a famous picnic point, it is situated at the distance of 6 km from Latamber town. It is situated in between the Spenghar hills, it is popular with the youth of Latamber.

Latamber has a continental weather and is extreme both in summer and winter.

There is a huge graveyard known as Qabroona starting from the main adda of Latamber where thousand of lives have been laid down to rest.

Another old building is of DAK BANGLOW, with its own history. It was built by the British Government as a Rest House for Dignitaries. It is still in very good condition although having no officials' care and proper maintenance.

Khawas welfare Society (KWS) Latamber is non Political and non Governmental Organization.

Public facilities

The Model Rural Health centre of Latamber provides medical facility to the Region, it provides only Checkup facilities for, HB Test, Malaria Test, etc. provide little bit facilities in accidental cases. Only One simple MBBS doctor is present.

Now RHC Latamber has been upgraded by Provincial government and it will now the "c" grade Hospital. Medical, Surgical, Eye and ENT specialist will be available for treatment in near future. One Dental Surgeon is already working here.

Apart from RHC at latamber,Veterinary Hospital is also available in which a veterinary doctor is available,that provide free medical suggestion and medical facilities.
