Reátegui
The surname Reátegui is widely spread in the northern Peruvian Amazon region, particularly around Iquitos, Tarapoto, Moyobamba and Lamas. The surname is most likely derived from the Basque Larreategui.[2][3] It is orally reported in Peru that the immigrant of this Basque name, who first arrived in the Peruvian Amazon forest zone, had four sons, José Reategui Pinedo, Issaias Reategui Pinedo, Senón Reategui Pinedo and Eliséo Reategui Pinedo; they moved into the regions of Iquitos, Tarapoto, Moyobamba and Lamas, respectively, and colonized them.[4]
Don Félix de la Rosa Reátegui y Gaviria founded Santo Toribio de la Nueva Rioja on 22 September 1782, today's town of Rioja in San Martin Region of Peru.[5]
