Lapte is a commune in the Haute-Loire department in south-central France.Its inhabitants are called laptois and laptoises.The municipality covers 30.8 square kilometres and 1515 inhabitants from the last population census. Population density is 49.3 inhabitants per square kilometre in the town.Surrounded by the common grezac, chenereilles and raucoules,lapte is located 23 km southwest of firminy the largest city around.

Geography

Located at 860 metres altitude the Lignon river, the river DENİERES are the main rivers that cross the joint Lapte. The river Lignon du Velay flows through the commune.
