Luxettipet or Lakshettipet is a village and a Mandal in Adilabad district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India.[1]

It is located on the National Highway 16 (India), between Nizamabad and Jagdalpur.

Assembly Constituency

Luxettipet is a Legislative assembly constituency till 2004 general assembly elections, which is reconstituted as Mancherial in the same district. There are 2,21,685 registered voters in Luxettipet constituency in 1999 elections.

Origin of the name Luxettipet

The name Luxettipet for the town located on the banks of Godavari river is due to Laxmi setty. Laxmi setty, a local business man used to have a shop near the Godavari for the people visiting Kotilingalu temple located other side of Godavari river. In his name, the town was named.

Name

The original name as per the government records is "Lagishettipet". In due course the name became "Laxettipet" in the government records. This can be verified from the old records the old Thehsil office.

Temples in Luxettipet

There are many temples in Luxettipet. In the old Luxettipet, there are temples dedicated to Vishnu and Shiva, which are old, many people visit them on Dusserha or Vijayadashami to offer Jambi tree leaves to the Gods. There are two Hanuman temples, one is in brahmin street and another in Angadi Bazar. The Ramakalyanam performed on Sriramanavami at Angadi bazar Hanuman temple attracts many people in the town. New temples are located on Godavari road and Beetbazar.

Church of South India

The Church of South India is one of the biggest church Congregations in India. Missionaries had built this beautifully structured Church in Luxettipet between the years 1914 to 1930. The Missionaries like Rev.E.W Harley and many others took part in its construction. CSI Church Compound has an area of 75 Acres and there is an Aided School, Hostel and Hospital, Aashirvad Kendra (Self Employment training Institute) and a Pastors Bungalow within the compound. Luxettipet Pastorate Consists of 9 Village congregations under this pastorate.
