Lagonisi (or Lagonissi) (Greek: Λαγονήσι meaning "rabbit island") is a settlement in the southern part of Kalyvia Thorikou by the Saronic Gulf in the Greek prefecture of Attica. Lagonisi is linked with a 4-lane highway (GR-91 linking Athens and Sounio. The small road linking to the airport lies north. Lagonisi is located approximately 30 km SE of Athens, S of the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport and the Attiki Odos (numbers 6 and 62), 35 km NW of Cape Sounio and south of the Hymettus Ring. Lagonisi is filled with luxury homes, beaches as well as several hotels and facilities lie within the Saronic and restaurants also cover the shoreline.
The mountains dominate the northern part of the municipality, with a valley consisting of farmlands and vacation homes covering the rest. Businesses and tourism are the most popular industry in Lagonisi after shifting from rural in the 1960s and the 1970s. Agriculture was formerly the main industry of Lagonisi, but continues today with farmlands covering much of Lagonisi. Later, Lagonisi became part of the Athens Metropolitan Area. Suburban housing arrived in the 1960s and 1970s and continues to this day. In the 1970s, the highway added two additional lanes to GR-89 (Athens–Sounio Road).
Lagonisi has schools, a lyceum, a gymnasia, churches, and squares (plateies).
