La Prairie is a city in Itasca County, Minnesota, USA. The population was 665 at the 2010 census.[1]
U.S. Highways 2 and 169 are two of the main arterial routes in the community.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.8 km2), all of it land.
As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 605 people, 239 households, and 174 families residing in the city. The population density was 532.0 people per square mile (204.9/km²). There were 249 housing units at an average density of 218.9 per square mile (84.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.35% White, 1.32% Native American, and 0.33% from two or more races.
There were 239 households out of which 32.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.3% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.8% were non-families. 20.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.90.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 27.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 106.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $39,375, and the median income for a family was $50,250. Males had a median income of $41,125 versus $23,681 for females.
