Lokmanya Tilak College of Engineering (LTCOE or LT), established in 1994, is one of the premier engineering colleges in Navi Mumbai affiliated with the University of Mumbai. The college is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and is recognized by the government of Maharashtra. Over the years the college has gained recognition in the engineering fields by producing merit rankers each year. LTCOE offers graduate programs of engineering in the following fields:

LTCOE offers post-graduate programs of engineering and management:

It also offers a two-year Masters Programme (M.E.) in Mechanical engineering.

History

The college was started in 1994. It is named after the Indian freedom fighter and social reformer, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who was reverently addressed as Lokmanya (meaning "Beloved of the people" or "Revered by the world") Tilak. Mahatma Gandhi called Tilak "The Maker of Modern India."

Admission

Admission to Lokmanya Tilak College of Engineering is carried out as per the norms of Directorate of Technical Education – Maharashtra State. The rules and regulations prescribed by All India Council for Technical Education, Directorate of Technical Education – Maharashtra State and University of Mumbai are applicable.

Eligibility criteria

Maharashtra State candidate and OMS candidate for admission first year of degree courses in Engineering / Technology candidate should be an Indian national and should have passed the HSC (Std. XII) examination of Maharashtra state Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with subjects English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and secured minimum 50% marks, i.e., 150 marks out of 300 marks (minimum 45% mark, i.e., 135 mark out of 300 marks in case of candidates of Backwards class categories belonging to Maharashtra State only) in the English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics added together and obtained non zero score in Physics Chemistry and Mathematics at MHT-CET.

Direct admission to second year candidate should have passed in First Class or First Class with condonation, post-SSC or post-HSC diploma course in Engineering/Technology of the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE) or on any other recognized diploma equivalent to the diploma awarded by the MSBTE with English as the medium of instruction at the diploma level or of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere (BATU) or of any other AICTE-approved institution which has been granted academic autonomy by the government of Maharashtra or university in the state of Maharashtra.

Campus

The institute consists of the 'old' and 'new' buildings. The old building holds classes especially for the first year students, where teachers give specialized attention to them. The recent 'new' building has an organized infrastructure, where the lectures and practicals for the remaining six semesters are carried out. The college is in the process of increasing its overall capacity by building an additional building adjacent to its main campus in the same block.

A large seminar hall located on the fourth floor is used for guest seminars, conferences and other cultural activities.

The mechanical workshop in the ground floor is well equipped with the latest machines. The institute has an efficient security force, offering 24-hour service. The restaurant Khana Khazana (near the campus) is popular with students.

The college also has an in-house stationery shop providing books for reference.

Sports are carried out in two grounds nearby, which are a part of the campus.

Library

One of the places where the faculty and students like to hang out is the library which occupies half of the fifth floor of the new building. The library stocks all the relevant books, guides, and project manuals as well as the latest technical magazines, etc. It has a 9-to-5 computer lab, where students can access technical sites such as the IEEE. The reading hall is made up of small cubicles clubbed together which facilitates an undisturbed reading environment

Research and development

The R&D lab was started in 2004. The cell is constantly active and undertakes projects from industry and conducts research on the same by involving the students and faculty. Recently, the cell succeeded in receiving a sponsored and collaborative research project in association with Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd.

Events

The institute has successfully carried out many cultural and technical events over the past years. The institute organizes robotics competitions, technical paper presentations, technical seminars, workshops, intelligence quizzes, etc. Initially, five technical festivals were held every year till 2007 — Surge (Elec.), Ethos (Comp.), Zigma (ELEX), Mechtrix (MECH) and Threshold (EXTC). The technical festivals were then merged together to form Tech-Zephyr; the named is derived from Zephyr, the college's cultural festival.

Unlike most other engineering colleges, LT holds a 'parents teachers meet' after mid-term exams, to review and better student performance.

Zephyr

Zephyr is the only cultural festival under Mumbai University to have been amongst the very first to apply for and clinched a trademark. (Zephyr is a service marked event and the school is proud of the fact that ZEPHYR SM is a brand.) Zephyr is the only known cultural festival in India which has taken up the environmental cause of global warming.

Zephyr’s core audience consists of ecologically and socially conscious people throughout Mumbai and across the state of Maharashtra consisting largely of cultural creatives who actively support sociological causes like global warming, AIDS, etc. Attendees represent one of the fastest growing markets in India with attendees largely coming from Mumbai and its surrounding education hubs, often cited as the most open-minded and socially progressive regions in the country.

Zephyr is held during the summer term, which attracts students from engineering colleges all over Navi Mumbai to participate. The most notable events are the 'War of Bands', 'dance competitions', 'Dramatics', 'Fashion Shows', 'singing competitions', etc.[1]

Recruitment

The college has an increasing record of its students being placed in well-reputed companies of India. The major recruiters of LTCOE are:

Over the years, the number of students being placed in reputed companies has shown a constantly increasing upward trend. The T&P cell provides training to students regarding competitive tests, group discussions and technical interviews. In addition to all this, all the departments hold mock tests of competitive entrance exams for the final year students.
